problem came up about 2 weeks ago, right after the hurricane up here.

screen will stay on during bootup but once the os boots it will turn on and off. had this problem for a while and now just recently when it boots it gets stuck on the grey screen. the bar moves along about 20 percent then turns to the rotating circle flower thing then the screen turns off and nothing.

tried getting into repair but in repair the screen keeps turning off.

apple store said, when my uncle brought it in, that they would fix it for 500 but never said what was wrong with it. i have applecare full warranty still so idk what they are talking about. they said something about the loose screen hinge (its loose but certainly in fine condition).

    thanks.

Was the laptop plugged into a wall outlet during the storms? Is that why you mentioned the hurricane?

Apple store is probably asking for $500 because they are associating the damaged hinge with the display problems... Basically implying that you broke it and they aren't responsible. Or something like that. It's bogus and one of the reasons why I may not buy another Mac because of their lack of accidental coverage. Not to mention there is no NBD parts or onsite service repair... Which i would've purchased in a heart beat if apple offered it.

As for what is wrong with the display and how to fix it, sorry I don't know.

thats why you get a warranty with accidental coverage elsewhere... I actually have computer coverage on my homeowners insurance, and they'll cover accidents, theft, etc...

Spending $500 to repair your laptop is too much money in my opinion. You should perhaps consider looking into buying a new one.
