Im looking to buy an apple mainly for iphone app development, but also for adobe after effects. Id like to have a bigger screen so i was thinking of the 21" imac but id also like to use it on the go at work etc.
So the imac is out and i figure when im home i can dual screen to my 27" acer screen so that shouldnt be a problem. I just would like to know if the specs of the macbook i want are good for what i will be doing.

    15-inch: 2.3GHz

    2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
    4GB 1600MHz memory
    500GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 512MB of GDDR5 memory

For 1799.00 i would think it should do what i want.

If you're going to be coding and doing video work, you can keep the base 15" MBP. However, I would recommend upgrading to the high-resolution 1680x1050 screen. Apple offers it in glossy or matte. I would also suggest buying an SSD but that you can upgrade on your own.

The price is a bit on the ridiculous side for what it is. I would 2nd everything said here:

    1) you should get an SSD (aftermarket)
    2) you should upgrade the screen and get the "matte" version
    3) you should only consider this if the money literally doesn't matter
