Anyone have experience buying from macman812 on eBay? In particular, has anyone bought a laptop from him with AppleCare, then had to service the laptop after one year? If so, did Apple request a receipt and box serial number? Did macman812 take care of you?

    eBay My World - macman812

I'm looking for actual experience with this particular seller. I don't want to get into the debate on how he manages selling AppleCare at those prices. There are many different theories. What I want to know is: does it work?

He seems like an upstanding guy and is excellent with communication. He has been on eBay with the same id since 2003. Sells tons of Macs. Huge positive feedback. Seems dedicated to taking care of his customers. All of the issues I've found when Googling "ebay applecare" refer to other sellers.

Anyone have any actual experience with macman812, positive or negative?

The laptop and Applecare is great and legit. The only problem I have with Brian is that he is installing pirated software on the laptop.

Seems like Brian has been able to take care of Applecare issues when they arise, such as Apple wanting box serial numbers and receipt purchases as proof of the validity of the registration. Don't know how, but he manages to fix things. I want to know if the Applecare sold with the laptop is rock solid. If macman812 disappears from eBay for whatever reason, will Apple honor the Applecare he sold me?

So mainly I'm looking for anecdotal proof that this works. Anyone?

Yep, I bought Apple Care from macman812 and it was revoked by Apple after a while. Apple requested the original receipt or the box but macman812 just left me hung out to dry.

Yep. Lots of topics in the past. MacMan can not be trusted. He sells and people give him positive feedback right away. But after a while when you need to use it, Apple sometimes requests verification of your Apple Care. They did for me, and Brian would not help when this happened. He didn't have the box/serial # for proof even when I asked him for it. Apple verifies this now in some cases.

There was a large topic a while back and Macman was confronted by many here and he couldn't respond real well to the questions so he lost support from many of us from that point forward. I am going to spend the extra and get it from Apple this time when I get my new Mac.

This was on macrumors site btw. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=8114003&highlight=#post8114003

I see this question has popped up here on its usual every few months cycle to be discussed and debated ... I keep this post of mine linked in my profile page so I don't have to keep typing:

My detailed recommendations on this topic and Ebay purchases, as discussed previously, can be found here and here.

Follow these suggestions and you should be fine.

And - copied from the linked macrumors thread pg 17 - I think this might be informative to folks around here:

Thank you for your recent purchase of an AppleCare Protection Plan. We will be happy to complete your plan's registration process, but we need additional information from you. Please provide either of the following two items:

    1. The serial number of your AppleCare Protection Plan. You will find the serial number on a sticker on the bottom of the AppleCare Protection Plan box. Please email the serial number as well as the AppleCare registration number and Case ID shown above to [email protected].

    OR

    2. A proof of purchase for your AppleCare Protection Plan. You could scan the proof of purchase and email it to [email protected], or you could fax it to (916) 399-7337 using the attached cover sheet. Either way, be sure to include the AppleCare registration number and Case ID shown above. Please note the following:
