This is driving me crazy. I have tried since last night to configure my mac mail, hopefully someone can answer this newby question.

I have read that I need to click "mail" then "preferences". However, "preferences" and most everything else is shaded. Does anyone have a clue why this might be?

Other than that, I am enjoying the Mac side.

    Thanks,
    Thraak

Try clicking on a maibox and then clicking on preferences and see if that does anything. Also, use Command > , and see if that will bring up the preferences. Also, click on Mailbox and "take all accounts online" then go to the preferences. ;) Hope that helps!

Preferences should be available as long as you've set up your email account. Have you done this?

Okay, I got it, thanks guys. The email program wasn't fully set up. I jumped to conclusions when I downloaded Safari 4 beta. I should not be so anxious to jump into this OS without knowing anything about it. I will go to the library tomorrow and learn OS X.

    'Thanks Again,
