The new MBP's which were release a couple months ago seem a lot stronger compared to the reports of the older MBP-line. On my brand spanking new MBP I do not, yet, notice any give of any sort. Seems like a rock solid build.

On the note of AppleCare, does it give an additional 3 years of warranty on top of the initial year? Or does it only add 2 extra years?

just extends to 3 years, thats why many wait until their first year is up before they decide to get it.

Apple doesn't offer any sort of accidental damage protection, do they?

Nope. Applecare doesn't cover accidental damage.

not at all. you can get something like that from retail stores if you want it.

but the thing is- if something breaks on my machine it is still covered. if there's no sign of damage, they won't think twice about it.

if your machine has a massive dent or crack or something... you might be in trouble depending on what goes wrong with it.

My friend owns and older mbp and she's noticed the screen/top seems a bit warpped.

I don't know if that's normal or if the new MBPs do the same.

So as far as AppleCare, after the year of free service, you purchase the AppleCare Plan and you get 3 more years.

That's 4 total years of service if I am not mistaken?

You are mistaken. AppleCare extends coverage to 3 years from the computer's purchase date. For a total of 3 years, not 4 years.

The MBP casing dents because it is metal. Most other computers are made of plastic, so they simply crack.

The MBP is sturdy and can take a fair amount of abuse, though.

There is no catch here. :D

The AppleCare Protection Plan clearly states:
Apple even took the time to illustrate this concept.

LOL, people these days auto-assume that the company they get the product from is out to get them. Apple seems to have defied the trend in this instance. :)
