after having this macbook pro for half an year i have begun to search for alternatives in the market.
frankly there isn't any, yet; good job apple
ps. i dont love/hate my mabcook so please refrain from flaming![]()
things i still like a lot:
small(er) footprint than other 15.4"
al. chassis(weight less)
acceptable screen for viewing as there are too many glossy screen floating around in the market that i hate(matte)
adequate GPU(i'd like it a little faster for call of duty 4, but it is good)
4gb of ram(i ordered 2gb but it shipped me 4)
magsafe
illuminated keyboard
good 4hours of wifi battery
trackpad
ambient sensor
things i hope to have:
give me more USB!!!
al. chassis(heat can be an issue during summer to touch)
standard screen color gamut, but on so called "pro" model it should have more for photo-editing.
i'd love to have a better keyboard
apple need to provide a better environment on mouse driver, give people some incentive to produce something decent?
screen resolution can be improve, 900pixel just isn't enough(not something possible given the trend of 16:9 aspect ratio)
please let me have an option to turn OFF the mouse acceleration
things i am indifferent to:
os/x or windows
macbook pro has offer me a enjoyable user-experience thus far before changing my portfolio of a 24" imac(or any IPS+ monitor desktop set up) + a 10" tablet notebook. and for any other notebook around this size, macbook pro is to me is one of the best option out there. (spec/price aside)
what i do:
photoediting(prefer to have an output require minimal editing), iwork, webcam, net, call of duty4
what i will add:
500gb+ HDD, possibly a NAS storage or another portable HDD.
a new backpack that fits 7 prime lenses and a notebook that last longer than 3months

you should try out dell studio xps 16.
-
dont try it out, im giving one back as i got 3 in a row plus the macbook pro>any dell.
the screen is great on the dell, but its heavy, 2 hours battery(lowest everything and wifi on), apple support is better, apple build quality is better, apple looks nicer, apple has a better keyboard/mouse. -
while al. is a good light weight material, reception of wifi is really not as good as other materials...
in a class when everyone could pick up signals well my laptop is struggling...
oh well, apple has to stick with simpler metal due from unibody construction to cut cost... -
If only my mbp had a better battery in vista and didnt try to fry my legs when bootcamping (sigh)
-
i should say on the things i dislike:
it gets too way too hot to touch after playing call of duty for 20minutes
in the end it went to 70C @ 6krpm -
nice gaming temps!!!
-
-
lol!!! No i didnt.
-
i stop the game every 20minutes, per session; that might be one of the reason why it didn't go over the roof.
it also make me wonder if it is because of the poor graphic optimization? or this is how slow 8600mgt is?
i cannot even run the game with full settings at 800x600, the optimal setting is like 800x600 with half of the stuff turned off; there is never any AA at all for both settings -
Normally, your temps should be the same as the 9600m gt. Don't worry, the 8600m gt is plenty powerful.
