I was about to order 2 gigs of ram for my new macbook when I thought perhaps macs and pcs use different memory, although I doubt it. Newegg doesn't ship to Canada so I'm going with outpost.com (Fry's), although if I find a really good deal on newegg I might just buy it and have it shipped to my friend in the US and ask him to ship it to me.
So can someone please tell me if pcs and macs use the same memories now, and also take a look at the following links and give a few recommendations:

Thanks.

You should be just fine. The new intel macs seem to play really nice with regular 'non apple' ram.
Fry's looks like its not too far off neweggs price. go with frys -
K in the link below, if you organize the list by price, the first 3 products (the cheapest 3, each 49.99). Are those good?

The older the ram gets, the more expensive it get. Its ass backwards, but thats how it goes. PC-5300 ram right now is the cheapest i have seen ever. Luckily, thats the kind you need.
this is it here: http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4779979?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
I read a bunch of reviews for the exact same ram over on newegg, people confirming that it works perfect. so i would order away! -
Watch out for customs brokerage costs when ordering cross-border, these can add $16 - $30 very quickly, on top of shipping, GST and provincial tax.
There are some good options for purchasing within Canada as well. Not US$50, but competitive once shipping and exchange are taken into account. -
how convenient..... canadaram.com

Let's do the math
Frys:
US$45.99 - 1 Gb of RAM (from $44.99 - $80.00 per Gb depending on brand)
US$19.54 - shipping
$10.00 Exchange @ 1.152 on your charge card (Visa & MC take 2 - 2.5% extra on top of the bank rate)
$16.00 DHL brokerage fee (estimated)
$7.00 DHL Disbursement fee
=CAN$98.53 before taxes. DHL will collect both GST and provincial tax as applicable. That's higher than the delivered price in Canada from a variety of vendors.
It's a bit cheaper if you are buying 2 together in one shipment. Keep in mind that mail-in rebates (such as Corsair's one that just ended) are often limited to one per delivery address, so you can't get those rebates on both items - and some are not effective in Canada.
US$91.98 2 Gb
US$19.54 - shipping
$16.95 Exchange @ 1.152 on your charge card
$16.00 DHL brokerage fee (estimated, may be higher as the package total is > CAN$100)
$7.00 DHL Disbursement fee
=CAN$151.47 Better, but still not ridiculously lower than Canadian prices
And the hassle with warranty returns over the border is worth thinking about against the US price.
I don't care where you buy it from, as long as you know what your real costs are likely to be. If you want PC generic RAM here are two mailorder sources in Canada. They don't have Mac support but they are solid companies and won't rip you off:
www.ncix.com - have the same Corsair ValueSelect at CAN$64.99
www.canadacomputers.com- have the same Corsair ValueSelect at CAN$74.99
We also have the Corsair Apple 1 Gb. If you want guaranteed Mac compatible RAM, then have another look. -
I'm not sure if NCIX still has it, but I recently purchased a 1gb stick for $72 shipped 3 weeks ago, and last week another 1gb for $64 shipped, the prices are dropping pretty fast(probably due to Santa Rosa's pending arrival).
As mentioned, buying parts online from the states is a very risky thing to do, as customs can potentially tag you for alot. And then there are RMA issues as well.
