Hi, i recently ran into another little problem with my new macbook. I have a netgear wireless router at home. One pc connects via an ethernet cable, while 2 laptops connect wirelessly.

The desktop pc has windows xp, and file sharing and whatnot between the macbook and this pc works flawlessly.

The other laptop is a toshiba with windows vista home premium. From this computer I can see my xp machine. But I cant login from my mac, or from the desktop. From the xp desktop it keeps asking for an username and password when there isnt even one set up, and on the mac (10.4.10) when i go to finder > network > blabla, when i double click on the vista laptop, it prompts me for my username and password on my mac, after i do that, it says "the alias "whateverpc" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found", and gives me 3 choices, delete alias, fix alias, or ok. none of them do anything that fixes the problem.

Am i the only one here? Obviously it is a vista issue because i can connect with my xp machine.

There is a password associated with your Vista machine, even if it is blank. So be sure that you enter your username (Vista login) and then if you have not setup a password for your Vista account, leave it blank.

Another thing to try is turning off the firewall in Vista. If that does not do it turn off any other security software you may have. Of course, also be sure that you have file sharing turned on, and that all of your machines are part of the same workgroup. These are a couple of simple things to try first.

**EDIT** Take a look at this article:
    http://chris.pirillo.com/2007/03/07/file-sharing-from-windows-vista-to-os-x/
That may help with your OS X to Vista share. Apparently Vista made things more difficult.

It's not easy. I have constant problems and I have not really found a solid solution. Even when I can log onto the other computer, I get permissions errors trying to move files.
