    hi guyz,
what should i go for 2gb/4gb RAM ? the difference is whopping 160 bucks  I am not gamer but normal Matlab/C++/MS programmer who wants to try MAC. also, do u guyz knwo any software that doesnt work on MAC based windows ?

Also, while ordering how much time does it take on an average for shipping ? Is it advisable to go for expedited shipping ?

    All comments/suggestion are hugely welcome.

    Thanks,
    Mauvais

If you're up to it, I would recommend you upgrade the RAM yourself. Buy it elsewhere and just follow the instructions to install it. It's not very complicated and far cheaper.
As a side note, make sure the RAM modules are compatible with your Mac, since there could be some issues if they're not. Nothing tragic. Just check.
Hope it helps and be sure to let us know how it went!

but if i upgrade my RAM by myself, will the warranty be void ? I wanted to make a note that I use very heavy simulation softwares like matlab and modelsim. I would be needing heavy RAM. My previous system crashed because of this. I am also planning to have office 07 installed which would again increase the load.

    Please help.

I havent ordered MBP right now. I am just waiting for expert advice from you guyz. But one thing is for sure - i am not an avid gamer.

Also, I want some reviews on inbuilt webcam and mic that is shipped with MAC. Do I need to buy a separate webcam for recording youtube videos ?

    Help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mauvais.

Upgrading RAM will not void warranty. So, it would be best to upgrade the RAM yourself.

There is no Mac version of Windows.

Windows is windows. If you run it under a VM, then you will loose most 3d acceleration abilities (for gaming). But if you install it under bootcamp, it will be as if your mac is any other windows laptop.

Rumours has it that the WWDC will be focused on Macbooks as opposed to Macbook Pros. If you can afford to wait until June, then you should. Otherwise, an LED MBP with a Peryn CPU and multitouch trackpad isn't that bad.

what changes are being expected to happen to the new MBP ? If some1 can elaborate, i can make a quick decision.
I have listed few of them :
    1) design change
    2) upgrading cpu (isnt probable because apple has to sell the current processors :D

    Anything else please ?

    1) Many have speculated the design will be updated soon, but there's no hard evidence to support that supposition. The design is certainly not new, but Apple doesn't seem to feel it needs to update designs very often.

    2) The current CPU is not likely to be upgraded with the next revision, since the Montevina platform (which will be released this summer, and many believe this will spur the next revision of the MBP) will use the same Penryn chip used in the current model. There might be a slight speed boost or something, but nothing significant really.

    1) Well, Apple will have to redesign the MBP sooner or later, the design has been the same since the aluminum Powerbook G4. But anyway, we don't know when that redesign will come.

    2) The current CPUs on the MBP are the latest in the industry. Apple will update them with Nehalem when its released in 2009.
