I'm looking to purchase a 15" or 17" MBP in the next week or so. Was going to upgrade to 4GB of memory right away, anyone see a benefit to running pc6400 memory in it over pc5300? Any known advances in speed as some PCs some a small increase.

    Thanks!!

There will be no benefits, as PC-6400 800Mhz memory will not be utilized to the fullest, but will downclock to 667Mhz = the same as PC-5300.

The new Macs support RAM of up to 800Mhz, so the full speed of DDR2 800 will be utilised. However, the actual benefits you will notice are going to be minor.

Santarosa chips can't utilize 800Mhz RAM.RAM speed will down graded to 667Mhz. My advice is buy good quality 667Mhz RAM.I got 4GB Kingston value RAM kit for my new MBP & works fine :D

One thing might be of benefit, though.. If you can manually set the timings, you might be able to run it at lower than stock latencies.. Check out the specs beforehand..
