I don't know specifically about the 320m, but I do know that OS X performance is lackluster and people are getting better performance in Windows 7.

Have you upped the fan speed from the default 2000RPM?

I played SC2 on my MBP-13 (2010 Spring Version) and it runs OK on medium settings. You will need to turn off some settings such as 3D unit portraits and some other minor ones but overall it plays decently. I average about 25 FPS during the game which is not bad. Your MBP will heat up when playing this game. It taxes the integrated graphics quite a bit.

Bottom line, the MBP 13 is not a true gaming computer, but for everything else it's great.

90C is normal for MBP's, some people even get it up to 100C while doing even more intensive stuff. The thermal design allows for 105C so it's fine.

Regarding battery, it won't die from the heat, they're made to withstand that. Though if you're playing the game whilst on battery, obviously it's going to take a hit with regards to battery life.

Battery life meaning long-term battery degradation, or immediate impact on battery life in one sitting?

That'll balance back out. Don't get freaked out over small changes like that.

The MacRumors forums get these types of questions all day.

Im not sure how it effects the battery while playing because I just leave mine plugged in. It does get hot but nothing like scorching hot or anything that burns.

macbook pro is not good for gaming. Infact laptops are not good for gaming. Buy a desktop or something you will be better off.

Wouldn't buying a $60 notebook cooler be a better idea then worrying about heat?

I can't say with certainty how effective a cooler would be, since the MacBook has no vents on the bottom. It may keep the bottom shell cool, but I don't know if that would translate to cooler insides.

    science says "yes!"

    know how a heatsink works?

most cooling pads don't move enough air to keep the bottom noticeably cooler though.

I'm aware how heat sinks work, but as you confirmed, I don't think it would be very effective.

I did a search for 'Mac Cooling Pads' and a few things popped up on Amazon, like Amazon.com: Targus AWE41US Chill Mat for Mac: Electronics for $20, but it's design/functionality doesn't appear to be any different than a regular cooling pad. If you want, give it a try, see if it helps.
