Is it possible to partition the external drive that time machine is backing up to without losing the data? I would like to copy my leopard disc onto it.

The thread title doesn't really make sense with the post...which question are you looking to be answered?

bizarre. . .
why don't you just make an image of the Leopard disk and put it on the HDD? and also, if you are just using the HDD for time machine all it has on it is what is also on your computer, and things you may have deleted, but you must know whether you need them at this point, I would just reformat the thing how you want and setup everything again. or. . . just not worry about it. -
sorry that was a previous question i had but i figured it out before anyone responded and i thought i could just change the topic,
so how do i make an image and put it onto the hdd? someone just said copy it but i assume you mean rip it into an iso? -
Do you want me to change the thread title for you now?
EDIT: Okay, done for you.

thanks, does anyone know what the best way to go about doing this is?

If you have an external hard disk, that is devoted to Time Machine, than you'll have a folder on that hard disk called "Backups.backupdb". This is the folder Time Machine works with. You can create additional folders in the master directory of this hard disk and Time Machine WILL NOT interfere with it.
For example, my 250GB hard disk is setup like this:
Backup.backupdb
- Coyote's MacBook Pro
Temp
- Movies
- Music
- Pictures
So while the hard disk is being used for Time Machine, I can still use the disk for temporary storage, as Time Machine will only delete/add files to the Backup.backupdb folder.
Now, after giving that slightly confusing presentation I'd simply recommend that you copy the Leopard disk into an .ISO than copy that .ISO onto the hard disk. That way you don't have to partition anything and you'll have a copy of Leopard.
Edit: I don't know of any freeware programs, but Roxio Toast Titanium will make ISO copies of discs.
possible to partition time machine drive without losing data?
