i just picked up a powerbook 12'' and right out of the box it seems to be a tad malformed - it doesn't rest perfectly flat on flat surfaces, meaning it wobbles back and forth a bit (think of a dinner table with a short leg). it's completely unacceptable for when i'm resting my hands on it - it constantly moves.
everything else about it is great, but as a first time apple buyer this is an unfortunate defect. apple should replace this, right? i'll be calling them soon.

Apple will probably just exchange machines for you. My own experience has been good when I've had issues with Apple, and exchanges have gone smoothly without any problems - once with a 10 month old iPod, and again with a PowerBook after just a few days. In each case, the replacement items have worked perfectly.

that's good to know. i've just heard so many bad stories of people trying to return ipods only to have the rep blame the customer for "damaging it" when it clearly wasn't the case.
i guess we'll see what happens. -
Been in that situation, they were bloody lying, those godda*n ba****ds. I was pissed, they took my ipod for 20 days and gave me that answer. I said to hell with all of you, and fixed it myself somehow, it worked for 2 months and then died completely. I then went ahead and bought an ipod video

Sorry to hear of your issue.
If you are within the return period, take it to the place of purchase.
You can also call 800 MY APPLE and have your issue resolved.
Please contact them. They cannot resolve this if they do not know if it.
good luck

i have seen atleast 5 people with ipods that were corrupted just go to an apple store and within 2 minutes of talking they have a brand new one.
apple has pretty good customer service indeed. -
I have to say that Apple's customer service/tech support has been excellent with my iMac. My Bluetooth mouse died on me and I took it into an Apple store and had a new one 5 minutes later after explaining my problem.

This will beat all...
To make a long story short...a couple years ago I had an iBook that started to have some serious screen flicker issues (turns out a lot of iBooks around the time ended up with the problem). I remember taking it in to the Apple store in Columbus and they felt it may have been a motherboard issue of some sort so they sent it in. I got it back, same problem. I took it in again, they sent it in, I got it back, same problem. I took it in a 3rd time, they kept it, and I walked out with a 12" PowerBook for no additional charge that I still use to this day!
Of course it helped that my best friend worked there at the time and the Genius/Keyholder that authorized it was one of his good friends and we had all had some Wolfenstein 3D parties together!

update: i contacted the reseller i ordered it from (sweetwater.com) and explained what was going on. they're handling it exclusively - my laptop is on the way back in and they're either going to fix it or send a new one.
great guys over at sweetwater - i'll let you guys know how it turns out. -
Apple replaced two motherboards on my wife's ibook, when the 3rd went, they sent here a brand new ibook, her machine was a G3 2 years old and they replaced it with a G4. The motherboards blowing was an inconvenience but getting a new computer after 2 years was brilliant.
Moral of the story, pay for the extended warranty!
