this is the most important pic as I see. The ability to use a normal 2.5 drive. Now I need someone to test this quickly!

well Im wondering if the connectors are the same, if that is true its going to be an easy job.

I have saw the samsung 830 256gb for as low as 130 and the 512gb brother for 350, 256gb is more than enough for file carrying, but the 512gb is a great in terms of space, so its easy to see why Im extremely interested in this.

hard to say, there may not be a 5v power pin to power a drive from, and if there is can it supply the amperage, many if the new SSD cards only have a 3.3v line. which means we would have to void warranty and mod in a 5v power scource sufficient for a 5mm or 7mm drive as a 9mm wont fit as was said.

the cable we will need is the propitiatory apple SSD to a standard SATA interface including power pins

given that the retina machines are going to replace the unibody ones, its only logical that the price of those machines are going to go down, and that left over bay is there for a purpose... I do think that there is a 5v pin out in there and that the interface is similar to that of the cmbp.

Im wondering why ifixit havent tried that yet or even posted something about it aside putting a sad in there and saying it mostly fits.

no active 5v pin in the 13" MBA, and it looks like most new mSATA are 3.3v cards from Toshiba's site and Samsung. this will be a big question if we even have an accessible 5v 500ma line.

they tend to not develop many modifications

well its not a mod per se, just try, you had the trouble to see if it fits, see if it works.

well the msata drives are different, actually they are the NGFF format, so the pin out is different

same chips and voltage requirements though, since I could not find a full pinout for ngff I just assumed same data lines and voltages as msata
