just wondering over the last 2 days i gotten a pop up screen that says i need to restart my computer, i got around 6 mesages and each time i had to restart the computer just wondering if anyone has gotten this screen, i got a week 36 macbook, i spoke to applecare they had me re install the os, and said it could be a memory issue if you use 3rd party ram. anyone have any input on this issue thanks in advance. p.s my computer has never shut down or turned off by itself, can this be a sign of the dreaded random shut down, i hope not knock on wood

I'm only asking because this might help others who know more:
How hot is your laptop running when you get these messages? Most, if not all, laptops will shut down when they think they are getting too hot. If you have a cooling pad, try using it to see if these messages pop up as much.
The random shut down issue was corrected AFAIK. -
well after reinstalling the factory ram, so far so good, i have not seen that annoying please restart screen, i guess it must be the memory, has anyone ever encountered this problem or heard or something remotely similar. thanks for the replies

It sounds like a Kernel Panic to me. More than likely, yours was caused from bad RAM, see how the standard factory RAM works, and if you don't get the message again, then obviousley it was the RAM.

hey cyclone guy you are right on point, that is what the apple care rep said it was, kernal panic , do you know why it would happen, i had the ram in there for almost a month then all of a sudden it starts i wonder how come it never started from day one. but do you know any more about that topic, is it just bad ram that causes that?

The most likely scenario here is that the culprit was a static discharge to the ram when you installed it, are you wearing an anti-static wristwrap when you handle computer components?
If not static discharge is a deadly enemy to computer components, when this happens, it doesn't always damage the ram right away, it can degrade the ram over time. -
xbandaidx, now you've got me worried about installing my ram lol. How do I get rid of the static, assuming that I don't have a anti-static wristwrap. Should I go pick one up at bestbuy or something?
-
hey bandaid, i dont use a anti static wriststrap i usually ground myself first by touching a metal potion of my macbook, but i always thought about getting one, do you know where to get one for a good price cyclone guy, i just sent my ram back, so hopefully i can get a better batch, i have no luck i tell ya

thanks for the tidbit bandaid, i think i am gonna pick one up, but its gonna be hard to find something to clamp on inside the macbook , any suggestions bandaid
