heres a thought that i've had for a long time but have never really complained about, until now.
PC= Personal Computer. its NOT a windows only computer. my mac laptop could even be considered a PC for reason that it is my personal computer. why must people now always refer to everything windows as pc and everything mac as MAC. not that i blame them though, the mac commercials were the ones that started it, with the Mac vs. PC guys.
thoughts and or comments?

there was a time when IBM released the ibm-pc, and it competed with macs, amigas and a lot of others strange computers, a PC computer should be binary compatible with that, although it's more complicated. Thats why we use to call pc and macs, but since the macs got x86 processors I think that is ok call them PCs

Personal Computer is such a generic term, it should apply to any computing device for personal use. It just caught on through the years that the multiple vendors of windows based systems would fall under the PC category and Apple didn't want to be associated with that term for marketing purposes. Like you said, Apple even had the whole campaign of Mac vs. PC. Is a mac a PC? Yes. Will Apple ever call a mac a PC? Hell no.

Well, at the Q & A session of the iMac announcement back in August, Steve Jobs did say, "Our main goal is to make the best PC out there", so he admits a Mac is a PC
.
Anyways, yeah, its kind of a generic term now. PC = Windows, Mac = OS X. That's what I try to say Windows notebook instead of PC. -
speaking of random thoughts.
why didn't Apple ever implement this:

Right, as vshade says, I think a lot of it has to do with the IBM PC. It ran DOS and was the computer platofrm adopted by business in an era when business was primarily using mainframes. When DOS became Microsoft and then DOS became Windows, it remained "the PC." PC as personal computer really reflects the shift away from mainframes. Apple was not really much of a competitor in this space.
Apple came into its own with desktop publishing, postscript and the laser printer. There was a period when Macs could display 24-bit images and most PCs were only capable of 8-bit color. And Apple/Macs always cultivated their outsider status with a tinge of snobby rebel attitude.
Apple continues this trend today, which is why on their TV commercials, it's Mac and PC.
Technically, yeah, the Mac is a PC, but most Mac uses will always say that they use a Mac. So, PC and Mac really is more accurate.
