What are some good reliable torrent programs that work with tiger?

Will using torrents make me have to defrag? I know on my home pc is fragments the crap out of my hard drives.

I know, I know macs don't frag much but the nature of torrents works by doing parts of files from many people at the same time.

Not an OSX user, but you can check out

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_BitTorrent_software

Of the usual suspects, there's Azureus, which I'm not really a fan of (resource hog). On the plus side, it is one of the few clients that support trackerless torrents (although they just *had* to be different and implement their own protocol which is incompatible with the BT spec). There's also Opera, but I haven't looked at the torrent functionality - only use it for browsing.

On the topic of fragmentation, most clients allow you to "preallocate files", which removes most issues with fragments.

I use uTorrent myself, which currently doesn't have an OSX binary, but seeing as they got acquired by BitTorrent, it's only a matter of time till they release an OSX version.

    Transmission is awesome.

A friend found one that would even let users use bittorrent, even if the network blocked it. Our univ. disabled all BT traffic, but he got one program that still allowed him to d/l them.

I have transmission working, but it doesn't create the file beforehand. Is there a way to do that in transmission?

What do you mean? Transmission creates the files when you start downloading.

I was hoping it would create the whole file in the beginning so it does not fragment the hard drive so much.

Bits On Wheels is good. Has a really cool 3D view of your torrent in progress.

I wish they'd port uTorrent over to OSX...that would be perfect.
