    Dear Soccerjoe5:
I am no expert but do have Brickhouse - a simple firewall. Versiontracker has a free download of it. Its only drawbck is that should you turn off your computer, you have to turn back on again.

So far all my help has been with pc anti-virus stuff which all posters have helped me a lot! Soon someone else will respond. But yes, a Mac can be attacked. Slight chance but it exists.

Hope you get what you need.
    Sincerely,
    macmac

    Hi soccerjoe5

Yeah, definitly get a firewall. You should always have one to ensure your ports are closed. I actually recommend just buying a home gateway router. If it's a notebook you are getting, you will benefit from a wireless home gateway router so you connect wirelessly and have a basic firewall. Oh yeah, any home gateway router will do. Linksys, Netgear, D-Link all make good ones. As for anti-virus, I am not aware of a free MAC anti-virus. But none the less, you should still buy one.

Mac's and virus's really dont go in one sentence :) It really is a joke to be frank, their is antivirus software for the Mac, but their only has ever been 1 virus ever released on the Mac, and can only affect you if someone gained access physically to the system. So that company is just hoping people will buy into something that doesnt really exist.

"The personal firewall is based on ipfw, a technology that has stood up to years of real-world use in protecting the most mission-critical UNIX computers on the Internet."

    Check out: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/security/

Its years ahead of the crappy Windows firewall ;)
