good:
it controls as intend
bad:
it should be slimmer in profile to fit into the express card slot, make it charge and work w/ it? HP has it, and since the shape of it looks alike, why not apple?
question:
any other programs that i can make the apple remote a better piece than it is? i don't use frontrow often as i seldomly use itune besides iphone sync; while the remote works w/ vlc i'd love to have programs that will improve it.
ps. they only go for 20, so why not?![]()

I was going to get one but I just use my iPod touch as a remote
-
with all those function i use on my iphone i am already killing the battery fast enough it barely last me a day now (3G, some voip, some internet, some wifi, push email, mp3, no games cuz i still prefer psp)
the 128mb of ram is just not enough for iphone... what a shame, winmo were having 256mb when iphone 3g had released (not comparing on its efficiency, but if iphone has 256mb it would fare much better)
anyways, let's back to the topic w/ just the remote itself please
-
My remote was included with the purchase of my MacBook. If it wasn't included in the first place, I probably wouldn't have bought it. I seldom use it, but it does come in handy. Not worth the twenty bucks though. More like ten.
-
The remote is not much use for a notebook unless you do presentations for your work on a big screen. I use mine daily because I have a 24" iMac as my living room TV and I have the EyeTV hooked up to it so I flip through channels and watch movies using the remote while lying on the couch. Although Apple's just being cheap IMO, I can see why they stopped including the remote because other than the iMac being used as a media center or even the Mac mini there's no real use for it.
-
apple remote isn't included sometime ago i thought?
i don't mind for 20, but cheaper the better
discussion of its usefulness isn't a question i guess, i have already bought it and like it and i just want to maximize its usefulness.
i looked and found remote buddy, mira and sofa control, trying out remote buddy in a little after download but the demo they have seem nice.
i use it when i am on bed, for now watching boston legal it is working as intended

I got one too ^_^
-
My sister bought it for me the same day she bought my mac. It's quite handy while watching movies. It would be quite nice if we could use it for powerpoint presentations!!
-
I think Plex supports the Apple remote.
-
Plex does support the remote as does Boxee. Both excellent media centers way better than Front Row.

If you can do some programming for Mac, you can use it as a mouse or a keyboard.
-
They completely stopped including across all of their laptops/desktops. -
REALLY??? Did you get your imac? Was it missing?? Apple is becoming a miser!!
-
I haven't received my iMac yet, but it's confirmed by others on Macrumors that it is no longer included.
-
So sad then. I was already in the market for a macbook pro last year when i read that macbook pros no longer came with a remote. I felt that apple wanted to rip us off. But when i got my mac, i noticed that i rarely use my remote control, except when watching movies.
-
True, many people don't really use the remote. That probably explains why even brand new ones are going for around 5 dollars shipped on eBay.
-
My bad! I paid mine £15 in november last year. At that time, the £ was nearly twice that of the $. So, i paid it ~$30.
-
remote buddy also allow you to use the remote as a mouse/keyboard.
it is running great for me so far watching movie on my bed -
I think you can use a iPhone, iPod Touch or even a universal remote instead.
-
Yeah i have the remote app on my iphone as well as air mouse, and they both do the trick. The iphone becomes a touch pad (even supports some of the multi-touch features like two finger click and two finger scroll, three finger forward/back in safari). Air Mouse also has a soft-keyboard to use. Its really a nifty little app. Now, I just need to get a bigger screen so that I can see the darn text when I am laying down on my bed LOL.

Don't feel bad - I've been screwed by the pound exchange more than once. I actually had to make an important trip to Oxford in December of 2007 when the pound-dollar exchange was at its peak. Considering I was in Oxford, I received the stark realization of how expensive it was to live in the UK
.
so i bought my apple remote today...
