the end result? really nice precision, just the way i liked it like windows' mouse.

downside though, when i use it with my logitech vx (800dpi) the distance needed to travel across the screen is so huge i will need another desk just for the mouse!

it become natural however when i am on my lachesis with driver settings done in windows.

sure i don't get all the buttons configured, but at least it is finally decent, besides the wheel(click) and the two buttons, there are 2 responsible for changing profiles, 2 for dpi adjustment and one more for expose

verdict: DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT APPLE!!!!
    :(

    for those who doesn't know:

open up terminal, type down the following,

    defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1

restart computer and there you go. as long as you don't touch the mouse speed setting the status is maintained.

you might want to have a gaming mouse though

They don't let you turn off mouse-acceleration completely in the control panel, and that IS a problem no matter what people say. Before I got Steermouse it felt extremely awkward to navigate OSX with my Razer.

Your feeling of awkwardness is nothing but personal preference......not a confirmation that there is something "wrong".

I turned Acceleration off in USB over drive, I can't even us it!, I have to set it to to the fasts setting and I still have to move my razer mouse to far. I like the acceleration, Probably because I have to go across a 15in and a 24inch monitor. I move my mouse a inch to go from one end of one to the other end of the other. That's the way I like it.

that's a good reaction by apple's side given their tyrannic record

is it "broken" by its literal meaning? not really. does it need a fix? YES!

but it is a feedback by a customer who want the most accuracy a mouse can get, and acceleration of any type or kind DOES NOT produce accuracy at all.

simply add a check box within the mouse section is all they need and i would prefer to have that function over any new ideas they come up.

-1 in mouse acceleration makes 4000dpi+ a reason to be alive(1440x900). i am now even tempted by the mamba of 5400dpi and that would give me some headroom on speeding up further more if i need. it feels odd, but as long as it works i careless.

you can also use USB overdrive to achieve this. It does feel a little more controllable especially since USB overdrive allows you to set the speed (80-1400 dpi) and 0-100% acceleration.

It also let you set different button on the mouse (particularly if you have media-capable mouse) to different functionality.

The Apple fanboy strikes again. "If Apple thinks I should use my computer their way, then that is the right way. Apple knows best!"

FYI, Apple used to have an ability to change mouse acceleration in OS 8, OS 9, etc. For some moronic reason, they removed it from OS X and tout is as a feature. This lack of mouse acceleration setting in OS X further demonstrates how bad a platform Macs are for gaming.

I just feel that it's good to give the users a choice, because that'll make everyone happy. Windows lets you turn on or off mouse acceleration, so... No complaints from anyone.

It just feels wrong that you have to download some 3rd party app to get this feature, not to mention that Steermouse isn't free.

That's why you use USB over drive, does the same thing but free.

It's probably because mouse acceleration is on by default in Windows. Hence if you didn't fiddle with it, it should feel the same.

However it's really really hard to use a high-DPI mouse with mouse acceleration on. It's so horrible that I refused to use my Razer Diamondback 3G under OS X, and preferred the touchpad over it.

I'm not saying that mouse acceleration is broken or whatever. It's just that some users don't like it on, and Apple should at least give us the choice to disable it or not.

I'm sure like most of you I'm used to Windows' mouse acceleration curve. Consequently when I first plugged a mouse into my dad's MBP I found it very annoying. So I looked up how to change this on the good old internet and found me a program called iMouseFix. It's made it a lot nicer to use this thing. :D Just google it.

To be honest, I haven't really felt a difference between Windows and OS X mouse acceleration. :p

I found the mouse acceleration so unusable I sent my MBP back last week. None of the fixes or driver updates made much difference, and the action was horrible.

I've had my new laptop, an HP DV5 for a few days now and at nearly a third of the price it's just as sturdy, almost as quick, better keyboard and touchpad and the displays just as good.

More importantly the mouse action is beautiful...no third party fixes required. Smooth, easy on the wrist and accurate.

Sorry Apple, major fail on that one for me.

this isn't even a os/s/windows debate or flame war, instead i am simply ranting on an option that is so trivial and so easy to add but apple never bothered looking at.

it is close to ridiculous that i have to use a high-end mouse in order to be used normally.

it will be even more funny if by chance i am upgrading to a 1900x1200 screen and have to purchase mamba for -_-'

    lousy.

I see. Different machines work for different people, and they are entitled to their opinion and personal preference without harassment. ;)

EDIT: Not directed at anybody by no means. :) Just a general statement about the Mac vs. Windows. ;)
