I wasn't going to, until I tried for the trial and actually was able to get my first name, without numbers, yay! (actually its not my first name, which is fernando in case any of you are wondering (and those who are not well you can keep not wondering (yes this is a parenthesis inside a parenthesis (and yes this is starting to look like an equation)))) Anyway, its fers. I tried before but never got it, i think it offered like fers188 or something, but now that i was able to secure this username i dont think im ever gonna let go...lol, so im gonna have to fork over the hundred bucks within the next 60 days.
im not even sure how i got it, maybe someone's expired and i was able to grab it? not sure, anyway, yay. lol

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
haha you paid money for the name.
-
priceless!
-
lol, well technically i havent paid any money yet, but ive been known to have problems in regards to money spending. One time i was in prague and my bank increased my credit card limit by 3 grand, i spent it all in one week. I could swear they knew i was away and it was a great opportunity for me to use it...
but yeah it's mostly for the name. heh, i remember my data communication prof, he has an 8 character hotmail email address, which is the max allowed at the time, he still has the same one, way back when the internet was arpanet and there was only one underwater cable to connect to the university of whatever's servers from venezuela. it was kinda cool that he had it, as opposed to johnsmith456797 or something like that... -
There's probably no way I'll get [email protected]
.
Anyway, i like MobileMe, but I can't justify the $99 cost. Its just...a little high for me. Well, I'm always broke, maybe that's why
.
-
ya.. $99 is sort of high if you think about it! ... but if it works well.. and you actuall use a portable apple device as well .. (iphone/ ipodtouch)... along side a mac, then there are quite a few benefits ... it's a neat sync system ...
couple that with the webhosting ...
the one thing i'm very cross with apple though is that they've done away with the bookmarks syncing ... that's absolutely ludicrous! ... it was such a nice feature... can't find any justifiable reason why apple would remove that.. but then .. this is apple.. they love charging a premium on things.. and act on their sometimes irrational whims!
(no flaming intended!)

I purchased .mac a couple months ago when I first got my MacBook and I'm extremely impressed with the change to MobileMe. I will probably continue my subscription next year.
-
Next time, instead of going for nested parenthesis, go parenthesis, square bracket, curly brace, parenthesis, and so on and so forth. So your statement would actually look like this:
(actually its not my first name, which is fernando in case any of you are wondering [and those who are not well you can keep not wondering {yes this is a parenthesis inside a parenthesis (and yes this is starting to look like an equation)}])
-
MobileMe and other syncing services seem nice. Privacy is my primary concern though and it's been a major issue for the 'free' syncing services out there. That premium you have to pay for MobileMe better be protecting your contact info and what not.
On a side note, I wonder if there's a DIY syncing system that you can setup on a small home server. -
I signed up for a 60-day trial, just to secure a nice username for myself
. But its intriguing, I might actually get it.
-
i was a current .mac user, I am unbelievably happy with the update, doubled the amount of my storage, all my currently hosted files, are still completely accessible through the older .mac links, including all the content (images) I posted for my Mac Book Pro review.

You can actually get it for $80 at amazon, that's a pretty good deal if you ask me, comes out to $6.66 a month, which is a pretty good deal for what you're getting, which I'm not gonna mention since everything apple including mobile me has been the headline of blogs and news sites for two days...
They just took away the bookmarks from the web interface. You can sync bookmarks between computers using IE7 or Safari (for now), all you have to do is go into your mobile me preferences, which are in control panel if you are in windows, and go to the sync tab, check bookmarks and your desired browser. Great if you are using multiple computers at home, or whatever. Works with the iphone/ipod touch too. -

Thinking of going with the family pack - once I get a couple other people in the deal for my to-be-most-likely-anyways-iPhone 3GB.

Why would anybody buy mobileMe now when you got 2 months trial... or maybe you meant trying it out not buying it?
Anyways, it looks promising, didnt test it yet but i wish it push all pop3 emails as advertised but i read somewhere someone was wondering why the iPhone can push yahooMail but not gMail, but i dono if its related to mobileMe service.. (anybody tried gMail push through mobileMe yet) ?
just bought iPhone 3G yesterday and got my first name (Sherif) at mobileMe which i didnt believe too
Matter of hours and will test all that, but just busy at the moment
-
Yahoo push is a service yahoo offers to iPhone users. Google hasn't done anything like that yet, which is weird since one of the Google guys is part of the apple board of directors.
Anyway, with mobile me on your iPhone, you can get your yahoo and mobile me email pushed to the device, but that's it. -
Not just "a Google guy", its Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google

I've been using Apple's online service since it's inception when it was called iTools. A couple of years later then Steve pretended we were getting something great added to iTools, it turned out were getting a BILL! LOL. A bill for $99/year. At first I was none too happy but if you really look at it the price is not high at all.
You get web services, online storage, syncing from the desktop and it integrates tightly with iLife. Now the entire service pushes information between your iPhone, iPod Touch and desktop Macs and PC's. The price of $99/yr is really broken down to $8.25/month.
Most of us pay much more for a lot less. I pay MyFax.com $9.99/mo just for faxing online.
Sorry to make this a reality but MobileMe's pricing is pretty good, some of you guys are paying AT&T hundreds of dollars just to make simple phone calls and texting and you will be paying more with all the iPhone features. -
Exactly what hldan said. $100 is a sweet deal, $70 if you're getting a new mac.

Calendar syncing works incredibly well! so glad I finally have access to my Calendar online, and it is auto updating back and forth both ways, whether I make changes on my computer or online, updates are very fast.
-
can anyone shed light on the following couple of things
1. I have multiple calenders in my ical and tons of to-dos... does mobileme sync the iphone with all the various calender events (along with colour coding) as well as sync to-dos? ...
2. Can I access mail and calender features in the ipod touch now and edit and create events/ to dos / mails ? -
Yes, you can have multiple calendars now with different colors, but I'm not sure about the to-do's, I don't think that is supported.
And yes, with the 2.0 update, you can edit and create calendar events, create mail, etc.
so, who bought mobile me?
