Well first of all i know there is no comparison between the both starting from the fact that one runs Vista the other runs leopard ,anyways so it is been puzzling me for awhile to jump ship and get a mac or not ,i played with a mac in an apple store and talked to one of the technecians or whatever for like over an hour he showed me arround i got to say i like the system "OS system that is"very easy to compose stuff like a presentation a blog all that kind of stuff"i m going back to school next year i might be doing alot of presentations"

so curenttly i own a toshiba satellite m100 that is falling apart on me after a year and a half and i am not happy with the way that thing built whatsoever
screen went bad ,plastic pieces coming out of nowhere

i love the build of the macbook pro looks very well made

and the sony also looks as a very nice candidate

so i was going to purchase the macbook ,untill i realized that most pc notebook have the bluray drives already which would make a big difference to me ,i have a new bravia tv but didn't buy the bluray player yet ,and with blockbuster having the new bluray disc collection it is very tempting to buy a sony with a bluray drive and plug it into my tv and voila .especially it has a HDMI output

but on the macbook pro side
    1.LED Screen and higher resolution
    2.macbook pro 8600gt vs sony fv 8400
3.multitracking system honestly it is a nice thing and all but not a deal breaker i ll probably get an external mouse anyway
4.aluminum casing very well contained and a slide in disc vs traditional tray "more chances for accidents not very common though but i did it once

so the question is should i wait for the macbook pro to get a blu ray update and hey ..how long would that be for

i understand that the macbooks are over priced in general but again seriously compare the build and you 'd see it is well worth it plus they do have some hardware that is not matched by any other notebook maker and it is hard to get the reall value of it like the led screen, multitracking pad ,slide in disc aluminum cassing the slim factor and the cool factor

that said i was thinking about buying the fz try it out and they have a 30days return policy ,but i don't want to be blinded from all the other options though ,so please give me your educated complete opinion and thank you in advance

Its hard to say when Apple will finally introduce Blu Ray, if it will ever. Apple is part of the Blu Ray consortium, but it hasn't yet introduced or announced anything to do with Blu Ray in its products. Another path it could take is just to focus on HD downloads through iTunes as the future, as it is currently doing so with the Apple TV.

Its up to you for this one, as is always. I see how the Sony + Blu Ray advantage is great, but like you said, the MacBook Pro has its great benefits too. Its more powerful, I consider a better design and more.

I would not consider Macs "overpriced". They're expensive, but the little extras that they have justifies its cost for me.

Personally, I think Blu Ray player prices will start to drop, as the public isn't going to buy $400 "DVD players".

Well the Sony has LED screens (I think)
you don't need the 8600 if your going to game

So if you don't need the power I would go with the FZ if you neeed the power go for the MBP. No news when the MBP is getting Blu-ray but there was just a refresh so my guess is not until this summer if they ever even put it in.

Oh and the only thing MBP has that other laptops don't is Leopard.

No, you need the 8600M GT if you want to game :p.

And I don't know...true, the MacBook Pro shares many things with other PCs now with the Intel transitions, but stuff like LED-backlit screen (still rare in the marketplace), multi-touch trackpad (even the two-finger scrolling, that rocks), the backlit keyboard, the thinness and the extremely light weight for a 15.4-inch notebook, the magnetic power cord, iLife, the ability to run all the major operating systems on one computer...these are exclusive to Macs or still very rare on the marketplace, and they enhance the user experience. I think its more than "just Leopard".

i have played with a 2-3yr old fz, and found it to be ok for the price, screen was nice, etc, but plasticky in general.
i own a mbp, and find the build quality to be a bit better than the fz was, but not by a lot.
i personally feel as though the build quality of the mbp line is not as high as others make it seem, but definitely above average plastic ones and all, in my opinion, i have owned three mbp-need for work- and a few mpro desktops.
dont get me wrong the build is higher than the fz, but i think it would be more fair to compare the mbp with a sony ar or something.

Sorry I ment you don't need the 8600 if your not going to game.

I'm not rying to hate on the MBP I would have bought one if it had accidental damage in its warranty :( . I am just saying you can get those features in other notebook except for mabey the multi touch pad.
