heh. needed something to replace my pos non working dell and i needed something a lot smaller. aafes had them marked for $999 for the weekend. got it in the mail yesterday. seems pretty nice, I just have to learn the UI. so what can I do with this now? I have already installed Eve online and it runs great considering the vid card. what useful programs are a lot of you using? I will be taking the 4Gb ram out of the dell and throwing it in as soon as I find a screw driver small enough lol. how is the heat issue? I noticed there are no fans but it doesn't get real hot, but read that if I throw windows on it will be pretty hot.

There is a fan on the MacBook, its just really quiet. You can control it with SMCFanControl :).

Drag the bottom right corner of your browser window until you get to the size you want. Your browser windows from then onwards will all open at that size.

hitting the green button once will allow the program to decide for you what it deems to be the optimum size (i.e. fit everything width-wise)

Well, that's the tradeoff...Macs run a bit hotter too, because they have quieter and smaller fans. But I love its (lack of) noise. Since its always on the desk, I don't mind that it gets hotter.

little problem. when playing video with quicktime, the vid flashes if that makes any sense, but if there is a window on top of the video then it does not flash. I used the software update in the upper left but no updates were found. what could be causing this?

I have no experience with the tower Macs, but my school has iMac G5s, and they're mostly quiet unless you work up the fans.

MacBook Pro runs hotter because it's made of aluminum, which conducts heat better. MacBook with the same specs as MacBook Pro runs considerably cooler. MacBook Pro 17” is cooler than 15.4”, because it has larger surface.
In Windows MacBooks run hotter than in Mac OS under normal load. I don’t know how they compare under heavy load.
Basically MacBook Pro is unbearable to work with even under normal load if it’s not on some well cooled surface, like cooling pad.
