So, I find my self debating weather or not to SSD my Macbook Pro... I have an Agility 2 90GB in the mail but I'm not sure I want to open this awesome machine up... especially after seeing the entire bottom of the computer removed in one guide, which is ok, but I want to be able to put it together just like it was. I know it should slide back with no evidence of an upgrade but I just want to be sure.
I can also use the 90GB in desktop if I want but... no noise would be really nice in the macbook.

1.) If you can afford an SSD and don't need more space than it can provide, ALWAYS get one. Its a great improvement in performance.
2.) Opening the back of the macbook is really not a big deal. Just be sure to have the correct size screwdriver. The rest is very straightforward. No issue. -
ok, well I've already ordered the SSD, it was more that I wanted to make sure that I would be able to reassemble this thing exactly the way it was... I usually upgrade PC laptops, so I'm not that new at it. but this is by far the most expensive and nicest machine I've tried to upgrade.

I just got my new MBP 15 today and I put my intel SSD from my previous pc into it. I've had SSD's in my previous macs, and it is a great improvement. As for the price tag, its the ultimate compromise.
Make sure you have a small screw driver, and a TORX T6 handy for the install. -

yah, I think i have all of that... or at least the hardware store isn't far. after the install does the bottom of the case fit back perfectly?
hopefully I get my SSD tomorrow. -
When you put the bottom back on, make sure the vent is properly aligned. I've seen people who didn't estimate the position of the vent and they bent the bottom (don't worry, I'm pretty sure your at least 400% more intelligent than those people) -
I hope I am too
.
well I didn't know about the vents, but maybe when I do the upgrade I'll see what your talking about. -
While I have the 13" MBP, the install should be pretty similar.....hope this helps....

well it's installing OS X again! 90GB Agility 2! yah!

agility 2 is awesome drive!

Personally I think SSDs are way too small to replace mechanical drives in single bay systems-if they're not for you they might be a nice choice, BUT remember OS X still doesn't support TRIM...
For both those reasons, I think a Seagate Momentus XT makes sense (a hybrid drive and the fastest mechanical drive by far). -
well.
1. it's still not as fast as my agility 2.
2. I can hear a hard drive and I hate noise.
3. I'm using 20GB's now, that's it. I don't need a big drive
4. my battery life is about 45mins longer (this shocked me) with my SSD
TRIM is over rated in my opinion. my intel G1 still runs awesome in my HP ,it hasn't been secure erased or anything like that in the last 1.5years.
so to me SSD is well worth the upgrade, I agree for most users SSDs are not the best option. question for you, when your computer is on and you put your ear to the case what do you hear? I hear my heart beat. -
^^^
good post. Completely agree.
I'm also only using about 24GB of my drive, as all my storage goes on external media.
