before getting one to try it on, i am interested to know if the pogo stylus will work on the trackpad of the penryn mbp; also, what is a good software that allow us to draw mindlessly? since i am only drawing some simple graphs for economics classes i am not looking for a wacom intuous/bamboo level of precisions and wanting to use it before making a 300ish purchase of a new HDD for my x41t (233x CF isn't fast enough i guess)
thanks!

I believe the pogo stylus works on all trackpads, so you should be OK. I'm not sure what free software is best, but you can download a 30 day trial of photoshop CS4.

i don't need anything fancy, just a white space, 5different colors, an option to type, highlighter and copy/paste is all i need

Download Scribbles. It's great, but that pogo is not going to be as great as you think. Get a $50 wacom.
Tho scribbles probably won't be as good with the pogo because scribbles has pressure sensitivity and the Pogo will not. The pogo will just be like your finger, it's really just a gimmick. It will not change your touch pad into a wacom, it will be nothing like that. -
There are other manfuacturers of tablets that are significantly (~10x) cheaper than Wacom (Trust is a popular one, for example). You should be able to find a decent tablet as such for less than $50 if you shop around. Beats using the trackpad when it comes to drawing.
