ok so the G5 notebook is a long way off...

Does anyone have any info on a g4 upgrade anytime soon?

currently some pc lappys are outdoing the macs spec wise, but in terms of design and weight they still cant compete.

I have a feeling an update may come soon, such as powerbooks with faster hard drives [7200], and maybe the 9800 graphics chip instead of the 9700...

Whos knows, but i know i'm holding onto my cash for a few months just to find out...

I agree with your hunch here, the PowerBook is due for a refresh although it won't be with a faster processor a la the G5...there's a few technical hurdles in getting power savings up and heat generation down for that chip to work in a laptop. My guess is if you can hold for a few months at the most, then you are guaranteed to see a new laptop come out from Apple.

Most rumors agree that there will be a refresh of the iBooks within a few weeks, at most. The powerbook update is speculated to come at the same time, or shortly thereafter. It is supposed to come with the 9800, which will be absolutely awesome. it's also suggested that the top-end pbook may go up to (but not including) the 2.0 ghz range. Alas, the G5 is definitely not going to happen anytime soon. I really hope they up the battery power so that we see some decent life out of the thing...they should live up to their claimed battery life, at least.
