Hey so I installed bootcamp on my new MBP, that went fine.
so then I installed XP which went ok, then i put in the driver cd i made from bootcamp and got this message:
"this package requires a newer version of the Windows Installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?"
I click yes.
The required resource 'UPDATE' is missing.
click ok.
says cant install.
wtf.
so I shut down in hopes of booting back up in OSX and researching on the web, but when I power back on, it goes right into windows and bypasses the bootcamp choosing screen, and I cant get XP to not boot up.
How do i get back to OSX, and why the heck wont the drivers load??

This happens even when you hold down the option(alt) key when booting? I remember my MBP booting up directly in Windows after having it booting up once in windows, but then i could bypass it with the option key. Also, did you consult the boot-camp help section in windows? maybe it talks about it.

ok thanks i didnt know about having to hold the option key,
so now I am back in OSX, I looked around for a bit in the help thing, but idk doesnt seem to say anything-- ANyone else had this problem??
thanks for the help -
no problem, i remember having the same reaction and then remembering to hold down the option button. If you reboot now in OSX without holding the option key, does it boot you back in OSX or XP? Then try booting in XP and rebooting without holding the option key. it might of just been a one time thing. Bootcamp is a beta program.

yeah I think got the switching under control now.
I think my driver disc issues are due to the fact that my XP disc might not be SP2, im downloading the Sp2 update to see if that works.
brb -
alright ... sp2 installer wont run because it does not recognize my copy of xp
.... i wonder why.... ?? hah
anyone know how to get around this "issue"? -
Guide #1
Guide #2
This program will automate the process for you and has added features you can use or ignore (I'd suggest ignoring every feature besides adding SP2). -
I somehow doubt he has a legit CD key for XP. He's probably running into problems because he's using an illegal key for XP.

thanks for the help guys. too tired to try it now.
ill see what i can do in the morning. -
The CD key i am using probably is not 100% legal, I got it from a friend and just didnt ask any questions about where its from or how he got it. My old desktop I purchased from my school came with XP loaded on it but no CDs, and when it crashed on me I needed a copy of xp to put back on it, so technically I did purchase XP with my old desktop and that copy of XP was destoryed so this one is just a backup.
so without yelling at me for using a not so legit copy of XP.... is there any way to get SP2 to load properly becasue it says it does not recognize my copy of XP most likely due to the fact that its not totaly legit.
thanks for the help -

well I already have XP installed on my partition of the HD and I can boot up in XP and do what ever I want, but it wont let me install the drivers from my Bootcamp driver cd. My XP CD isnt cd-rw, so I dont think i can edit it anyways.
Does this make sense or am I just confused? i just need to update my xp thats on the MBP, not change my install disc. -
uh.... windows took over... HELP??!!
