As far as I know Airport Express is intended as a repeater and to hook up to a stereo. I am not sure other than that what they can do.

by repeater, do you mean that it extends your network ?

The Airport Express is not just a repeater, it's a fully functional wireless router that has the added ability to extend an existing network and to connect to a stereo for wireless music streaming from iTunes.

Uhm... not much? It's a router, it has pretty much everything any other wireless router has - firewall, dhcp server, security for your networks, the usual. Then it has the audio out port that enables you to stream iTunes music wirelessly to a stereo (aka. Airtunes), which is a pretty cool feature. Oh, and a usb port for connecting a printer for example.

The only thing an Airport Express doesn't have and many other wireless routers (though not all) do is lots of ethernet ports - though the one ethernet port it has can be used as both WAN and LAN port, depending on how it connects to the network itself (most people connect it via ethernet to the dsl modem or whatever they might have and then use wireless from there, meaning it is used as a WAN port, but if it extends an existing wireless network you can use it as a LAN port for a non-wireless-capable computer near the Express).

Hope that explains things in greater detail. Try the website ( http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/) if you still need more information I guess :)
