Lol you don't need to worry about viruses really on a Mac.

The built in firewall should be good enough. Antivirus software like Norton only bogs down your system. It's pretty useless to have antivirus because even if a new virus comes out, there are so few viruses out that norton prolly won't be able to catch it. Just make sure you set the computer to show all file extensions so you don't run some malicious program by accident thinking it's a picture or something.

Yeah, it's also nice that Apple won't let programs get into the system unless you give it admin privelages. At least, thats the way it is if you run a limited user account.
But thats a general rule of thumb, always run as a limited user, whether it's windows, linux or mac. If there was a new virus that I tried to execute, I would have to give it permissions to install.

Use the built in firewall, and there is no need for an anti-virus at this point. Also, when you get one, be sure to run in a limited user account when doing your day-to-day activities.

you don't need a software based third party firewall. apple does a great job at maintaining security. as to AV, read the reviews for the mac version of Norton, and you'll see that most people who bought it are unhappy with it. Basically, at this point in time, AV is useless on a mac.
