I purchased a refurbished macbook the screen looks really washed out, I have gone through the calibrations for the screen but unless I have the screen set just right it is really light, any suggestions?
-
It would be more helpful if you would let all of us know what the details on your Mac are !
Fill out the Sig section and let us know what type of Mac you have. Your spec will give us all a better avenue to tell you what's up -
I have the new 13.3" aluminum macbook, 2.4ghz, 250gb hdd, 2gb ram, illuminated keyboard.
-
If you are referring to the screen washing out (in terms of the black level) when tilting it towards you then yes, that's the way it is on the Macbook. No amount of calibration is going to fix that. It's a very low contrast screen that Apple puts in the Macbooks because it's made for general purpose computing. Still a great machine though.
-
Yes it is a great machine, when I have it tilted just right it is very nice. So all the macbooks are like this? I wasn't sure if it was a calibration issue or the video card.
-
want a better screen? go for macbook pro
-
I wanted the 13.3" screen as it is replacing my other 13.3 inch screen, it is easier to take with me when I am out of town. I have 14 days to use it so I will have to play with the calibration to see if I can get it better otherwise I will have to return it.
-
its macbook, not mackbook
-
yes I know I didn't catch the mistake before I submitted it. Must be the screen
-
LOL --- good one --- at least you have a sense of humor !
-
Well if you need a 13" Mac and want a GREAT screen you should take a look at the Macbook Air. Yes, it's not the end all computer in terms of ports but the screen is superior to the Macbook and a bit better than the Macbook Pro. It has a very high contrast screen with incredible black level at nearly every vertical angle.
-
I thought about the macbook air but I wanted to have the dvd drive with it. So it appears that I can keep the 13.3" macbook and put up with the subpar screen or go with the 15" macbook pro, there is only a 1 pound weight difference between the two. I went to London drugs to check them out but they only had the 13.3 macbook and the 17" macbook pro. I have 14 days before I have to return the macbook but I am pretty sure I am going to return it as it is alot of money to spend on a notebook with a poor screen.

Found this picture on macrumors
It doesn't look that bad? -
It only looks good if you have it angled perfectly. If you bob your head, its really bad..
The macbook I saw had a worse screen than my wifes $499 toshiba... -
You are right you have to angle it just right and not move it. I am sending mine back, I really like the notebook. How long have you had your macbook?
-
Considering the Dell mini 10 or whatever has a better screen according to a review I read earlier, go for a 24inch screen.
-
I've read a lot of complaints about the MacBook screen. Agreeably, you have to get it at a correct angle and basically leave it there, but once it's set I quite enjoy it. It beats the heck out of some of my previous PC's. Considering the overall design and all the major positives of this machine, it's a very minor issue in my opinion.
-
I do like the notebook but I don't think that I could put up with it over the the long term as it gets annoying, I could almost put up with on the notebook but the screen is the thing you look at all the time, I usually use it on my lap so I am moving it more than if I had it on a desk.

I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering the MBP over the MB. I really like the size of the MB though.
-
I have ordered the macbook pro the 15 inch from what I have read is that the screen is better. I will be sending back the macbook.
-
There is really nothing special about the MBP 15 screen at all, I find it rather poor, but thats maybe because I'm used to an IPS panel. But I still find myself with poor viewing angles, and having to adjust the screen etc. The thing I loved the most about the screen though was the glass coating since its easier on the eyes.
-
Of course a desktop monitor will be superior. However in regards to the MB and MBP the Pro definitely has a better screen. I was planning on getting the MB, but when I saw its screen in person I decided on the MBP.
-
Yea, the MBP definitely has a better screen. No question about it.
But when you think about how much your paying for the MBP you would think that Apple would provide a screen better than the Dell Mini screen.
Hopefully this time next year, or this fall they will update the models with RGBLED screens. -
So the Dell mini screen is better than the MBP or the macbook? I have a Dell 1330 the screen is really nice and brighter than the macbook but I have had the system board changed 2 times in 1.5 years and now my headphone jack is making noises so I will have to have it replaced again.
-
Better than the MBP according to the test linked to in some other thread. Which I personally consider a joke considering how much we are paying for these "Pro" computers.
Here's a summary of the test; "Rob Galbraith, a professional photographer tried out an handful of laptops that would work great in the field. While the Thinkpads were the best, what he found was that the Dell Mini 9 had better color accuracy than the Macbook Pro. Though the Dell Mini 9 was dead last when it came to viewing angle." -
i find some dell notebook offers better viewing angle (for what i care) than apple and i can only say mbp screen is only "acceptable".
-
I was at London Drugs today and they had both the macbook and MBP on display I put the same background on both and the MBP was way better, if you had the display on the macbook in the upright position (where it should be) it had a washed out look if you tilted it back it was better.
washed out screen on macbook
