Just wondering, what apple's release cycle is like? How long does it usually take for apple to start releasing revisions? mac book pros.

found it! Powerbooks updated within the first 4 months, same for the macbook pros. So i'm guessing rev b glass book pros will be within 4 months. hope so!

What would they change in Rev B anyway?

The most likely date is Jan 09 at macworld (~3-4 months). All you could hope for is a cpu speed bump here... but I am hoping that they free up the upgrade possibilities on the mb. It would be nice to be able to configure it a bit more, ie select higher cpu, drop the hdd space etc etc, and perhaps bring the back light to the lower end model.

As for a higher res screen, I don't see it happening on the 15" MBP, however I can see the 17" MBP being redesigned to match the new MB and MBP design, therefore giving a high-res option. -
Wow, apple users never learn. After months of speculating everything under the sun, and week of depression when once again, apple release a notebook that was not upto the pre-lauch hype/rumouring. And everyone is back at it again. There will be nothing other then a possible speed bump in Jan. Any major revision (chipset/gpu/screen.. etc) is at least 1 year away... and as for a redesign not for 2-3 years.
I think we all need to lower our expectations a bit.

*The older MBPs get about 5 hours of "wireless productivity", while the new MBPs get that same amount with the 9400s in their energy saving mode. But the 8600 definitely saps more power, from what I've been reading, so something must've gone wonky with power consumption in these new MBPs. But I'm guessing a firmware update down the line might be able to fix that. -

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Correct, sometime Q2-Q3. The desktop versions are slated to start seeing release late Q4 '08.
Funny how people are predicting things in this thread based on wish lists and are not 1) paying attention to what Apple has already said is not coming ever (matte, bluray) and 2) past history of how Apple does those minor revisions. Underpantman has it completely correct.
EDIT: Intel has announced via press release that "production" of Nehalem chips will commence in the Q2-3 timeframe, but no comments were made regarding whether this is just starting the fabs or that this will be full production followed shortly thereafter by general availability. Thus, we have no timeline for actual shipping date estimates on Nehalem chips - it could be delayed well into Q4 '09. -

Most likely outcome is that the iMacs will be receive an internal refresh next month in November. At Macworld in January 2009, the 17" MBP will be updated to the current design and the Mac Pro will receive Nehalem.
Intel roadmaps say Mobile Nehalem won't arrive until at least Q3 2009 and there really isn't a rush for them since AMD has nothing competitive, even on the IGP front now that Apple uses nVidia IGPs. Integrated memory controllers also offer little to no benefit to notebooks, and Nehalem was designed primary to address shortcomings in the server market, which doesn't boad well for controlling power consumption which is probably what is taking so long. Nehalem also won't likely bring mobile quad cores to the mainstream seeing that Nehalem uses the same 45nm process as Penryn meaning it'll still be costly to produce and be power hungry. Mainstream mobile quad cores won't likely arrive until the 32nm process which is due Q4 2009. There were actually rumours that Apple might cancel the 45nm mobile Nehalems and just wait for 32nm version since the difference is only a quarter.
To fill the gap, Intel will be releasing minor clock speed bumps to Penryn in Q1 2008. We'll probably see a quiet spring refresh of all notebooks for Apple to pass along those CPUs. The GPU remain unchanged until Nehalem, since Nehalem will require quite a bit of internal changes so it's more worthwhile for Apple to wait until then to do GPUs are the same time. nVidia really isn't releasing any new mobile GPUs in the near future anyways. -

People spend so much time wishing, hoping, and speculating all for what? It usually ends in one thing - needless disappointment. Sure, every once in a while Apple has a trick up its sleeve, but generally they're pretty predictable.
Needless to say, Apple just came out with an overhaul of their laptops and what are people already doing? Speculating about the next one... it's utterly pointless.
When can one expect "Rev. B?" They might announce it at MacWorld in January... but I doubt it - I'd say MacWorld will be focused on their desktops. I'd say any MB/P refresh will come in Feb/March and will only be an incremental update, as in a slightly faster processor, etc.
Anyway, I've always been of the mindset that there's no point in constantly speculating about the next update... Just go buy your Mac now - It'll be no less useful six months from now than it is today. Just enjoy it! -

Apple tries to push it's own proprietary stuff more then confirm with current things.
New Display port ring a bell. And then charge you for the display port adapter. I guess there is just no money if doing anything simple.
when do you think rev b will come!
