Windows runs fine on the Mac. Boot Camp allows you to run it natively, so basically you have a Windows PC.

Penryn will come to the MBP if its updated in January (which is expected). There's a possibility of a redesign but its hard to say, it could happen any time. Expect some minor updates, like maybe a faster, larger hard drive, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't have a direct line to Steve, and if I did, I still wouldn't be able to tell you or my direct line would be cut right afterwards ;).

Blu-ray drives will probably be available as an option, at least for the high-end 15.4" and the 17" now that Panasonic has released drives that fit the MacBook Pro's form factor. Although if Apple charges for a Blu-Ray option as much as it does 4GB of RAM, it'll probably remain a rarity for some time.

I don't know...Apple might opt-out of the entire high definition format war until one format is the clear winner.

I was under the impression that Apple was picking sides when they decided to join the Blu-ray Association's Board of Directors rather than lesser roles like Contributers or Members. It's true that Apple is also a member of the DVD Forum, so technically they can be considered as being on both sides, and I think they sometimes portray themselves as such, but Apple is not part of the HD-DVD Promotion Group like some other DVD Forum members so they don't appear to be actively supporting HD-DVD.

Bleh, I don't think they will update the mbp at all. I think it took them like 2 months to switch to the santa rosa platform right?

My guess is macworld will focus on the mac pro, and maybe the new ultraportable or a new mac mini/nano whatever. And of course the usual software crap, itunes movie rentals, etc.

Of course thats what I want to believe because I just bought a mbp, but really, if they do update it, they would probably use the new 2.5ghz processor for the low end mbp, so a .3ghz difference I don't think is gonna hurt me. One thing that would is more vram, but like I said, I don't think they will update it right away.

dunno, they choose DVD-R back when that was an issue...

I'd say they'd go HD-DVD just to spite Sony...

As far as I know, the processor line-up is:

    T7200: 2.0GHz, 4MB Cache, 667MHz FSB
    T7250: 2.0GHz, 2MB Cache, 800MHz FSB
    T7300: 2.0GHz, 4MB Cache, 800MHz FSB
    T7400: 2.16GHz, 4MB Cache, 667MHz FSB
    T7500: 2.2GHz, 4MB Cache, 800MHz FSB
    T7600: 2.33GHz, 4MB Cache, 667MHz FSB
    T7700: 2.4GHz, 4MB Cache, 800MHz FSB
    T7800: 2.6GHz, 4MB Cache, 800MHz FSB
    X7900: 2.8GHz, 4MB Cache, 800MHz FSB

So there's no 2.5GHz processor. I would expect the next line-up of MBP's to only feature T7700's and T7800's. As for graphics updates, I doubt they'll bother upgrading the 8600m GT to 512MB of RAM as it'd make little to no difference since the graphics card is mediocre. They "may" update it with an 8800m GT or GTS, but it'd be under clocked. They'd also have to give it a more up-to-date heatsink than what the 8600m GT is currently using.

Well the upcoming Penryn lineup is:

    X9000 2.8 GHz 44W 6MB $851
    T9500 2.6 GHz 35W 6MB $530
    T9300 2.5 GHz 35W 6MB $316
    T8300 2.4 GHz 35W 3MB $241
    T8100 2.1 GHz 35W 3MB $209

So Apple can be expected to use the T9500 and T9300 in the MacBook Pro and eventually the iMac with the X9000 likely iMac exclusive. The T9300 and T8300 can probably be expected for the MacBook at some future date.

Sorry dude (m/f), i was just messing with you, I have no such knowledge. But my guess is there won't be any big changes in the near future at all, maybe just the CPU.

Aren't the Panasonic Blu-Ray drives tray-loading? Apple only does slot-loading optical drives.

I don't think they will put a 8800m in there, it would be way too hot.

they might do 256 / 512 mb ddr3 for entry and high end instead of 128 / 256...

honestly not that big a deal for the 8600m gt.

Would be awesome if they added Blu Ray support on the 15" MBP.

Although realistically if they do update it, probably be the new Penryn series processors and maybe slightly bigger HDs.

Personally I'm in the market for a new laptop, so I hope they do add Blu Ray option.

If they can put an 8800 GTX in a 15.4" Alienware that's only 1.3" thick... I think Apple should do some miracle engineering and put the 8800 GTX into the MacBook Pro.

They didn't add blu ray to mac pro line. That almost assuredly shoots down any hope for macbook pro blu ray :(

I was thinking that they might release a blu-ray device of some sort at MacWorld as a sidenote. Speculation of course, but it could go something like "And at the end of February, we will be shipping this mac with Blu-Ray as an option"...

Not a guarantee, but it'd be something else to drum up attention at the show.

Think you forgot the Apocalypse... :p

Nah, though I think BRD will be by the end of the year. I don't see Apple putting in a drive that supports a format that isn't even final spec yet. On top of that, they would have to decide... Do they want a BRD player or burner? They are not cross compatible yet.

If Apple does indeed release a new MacBook Pro model, it would be cool to have an option of the keyboard style from either the MacBook style or the current MBP keyboard style. I wish laptop manufacturers gave more options in this department. These days more and more parts of computers are customizable, why not the keyboard?

Well, as others have stated, since Apple didn't add Blu Ray to the Mac Pro I don't think they plan to add Blu Ray at all yet. One would assume the Mac Pro would be the best one to have Blu Ray.

I think you're right. I certainly don't care about a 5-10% increase in speed/battery life. I'll wait for a real refresh before committing.

It might seem that this year Apple is focusing on wireless...
