So i've mainly been a linux user but I want to stop fiddling and just have a computer to just use. I told my bro to get a macbook and i really like it.

My dillemma is this, which one should i get?

    Option 1: ~$900 Blackbook used
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/stats/macbook-core-2-duo-2.16-black-13-mid-2007-specs.html

comes with leopard, and 2 years applecare and 2gb of RAM.

    Option 2: from apple's refurb store $999+tax

    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/stats/macbook-core-2-duo-2.2-white-13-late-2007-santa-rosa-specs.html

comes with only 1gb of RAM.

Dillemma: which do you think is a better deal? Since the RAM speed is still 667mhz won't that negate any performance of the santa rosa model? Only other difference is integrated graphics. I believe everything else is the same (bluetooth, wireless a/b/g/n etc.)

the blackbook is black (yay!) and has 2 years apple care but ram is maxed.
white mac can have up to 4gb of ram and is newer.

    Please advise!

I think the black machine is a slightly better deal; if money is tight, this might make the most sense.

The white machine is my personal favorite though, and would be my choice. I don't think the difference in performance is great enough to really worry much about it one way or the other.

I would say go with the black unless you really need the 4gb of ram. the 0.06 extra GHZ will not make a noticeable difference anyway. With the black you get a great colour, more ram, a similar processor, save 100 bucks and you get leopard unlike the white. Oh and you dont have to shell out another 300$ for applecare like the white one. IMHO go with black.

After carefully reading the specs, I would lean toward black. It's $100 cheaper but comes with more hard drive space. The RAM in both is 1 gig. Black can only go to 2 gig while white would go to 4 gig, but "as shipped" they are a tie.

I would go for the white one. The hard drive is a little smaller, but the graphics card is better, and the processor is slightly faster. Plus 2 or 4 gigs or ram can be picked up very cheaply and installed yourself.

    I'd suggest the same.
