so i just got my new MBR with an i5 processor , and i wanted to install office 2008 so it asked me to go online to download rosetta , isn't rosetta for older macs??, will my office 2008 run slowly after installing rosetta??, And why isn't rosetta already installed on my new MBR running snow leopard??, thanks

MS 2008 is generally buggy and crap in my experience, iWorks09 is MUCH better. But the reason why it uses Rosetta is because M$ is too lazy to update their program to a universal build hince the Rosetta fun.
Rosetta (software) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Office 2011 "might" be better since it should be built natively for intel macs, but then again it will still be a microsoft product. I'd personally stick with iWorks. -
Moreover, all Office equivalents are better than their iWorks equivalents ... It's not by coincidence everyone is using office. -

either way, Office 2011 is just around the corner, right?

Rosetta is not for older Macs...
its for current Macs.
Rosetta is what lets you run old Mac PPC code on Intel Macs. Office 2008 is mostly Intel native code, but not everything... so some things need rosetta. Rosetta is NOT installed by default on Snow Leopard. If you want it its on the DVD and you can install it at any time.
iWork is fantastic by the way... -
iWorks is xml compatible and trading files with someone using office should cause no problems. iWorks makes it MUCH easier to turn out a nice looking document.
Can't really beat iworks considering it's half the price. -
this is very weird , i don't recall installing rosetta on the older MBP , and i just wanted no say that i never experienced a bug in office , don't talk about software without checking them
, @RogueMonk i bet u still think windows 7 has alot of BSODs
, thanks guys for the explanation

You don't have rosetta installed by default only if you do a completely clean install of 10.6. -
@doh123 thats a good explanation , yes i did a clean install , thanks
why do i need rosetta to run office 2008 on new MBP i5??
