MS 2008 is generally buggy and crap in my experience, iWorks09 is MUCH better. But the reason why it uses Rosetta is because M$ is too lazy to update their program to a universal build hince the Rosetta fun.

Office 2011 "might" be better since it should be built natively for intel macs, but then again it will still be a microsoft product. I'd personally stick with iWorks.

I don't know why anyone would use iWorks when the world and its mother uses Office.

Moreover, all Office equivalents are better than their iWorks equivalents ... It's not by coincidence everyone is using office.

I use it everyday. And I have not found it buggy or crap - at all.

Rosetta is not for older Macs...
    its for current Macs.

Rosetta is what lets you run old Mac PPC code on Intel Macs. Office 2008 is mostly Intel native code, but not everything... so some things need rosetta. Rosetta is NOT installed by default on Snow Leopard. If you want it its on the DVD and you can install it at any time.

iWork is fantastic by the way...

Office for mac feels like an afterthought. People mostly use Office because most people don't have macs.

iWorks is xml compatible and trading files with someone using office should cause no problems. iWorks makes it MUCH easier to turn out a nice looking document .

Can't really beat iworks considering it's half the price.

10.4 and 10.5 installed rosetta by default... if you upgraded to 10.6 from either of those with Rosetta, you also kept Rosetta.

You don't have rosetta installed by default only if you do a completely clean install of 10.6.
