    honestly why is there not a 17 inch macbook pro that has been updated?

    Yeah I'm slightly disappointed by this announcement. Sure, the new design and graphics chips are nice, but they should have kept the firewire ports on the Macbooks (or added even more ports, you can never have too many), also redesigned the 17" MBP, kept the option for matte displays, and included backlit keyboards on all new models.

    In the past they haven't always updated the 17"s when they updated the 15"s, so this is nothing new.

    Apple also provided a quiet update to the 17" MacBook Pro:

    The updated 17-inch MacBook Pro keeps its original aluminum design, and now comes standard with a high resolution 1920 x 1200 LED-backlit display and a larger 320GB hard drive or an optional 128GB solid state drive.

    Yeah the MBP is just a GFX card update. There's no re-design.

    I'm surprised by this, I expect the 17-inch MBP to get the same redesign maybe a month or two from now. I think it has to do with graphics cards that possibly aren't released yet.
