My first mac is almost a year old now. What should I do to keep my macbook pro running quickly? I maxed out my ram, but what maintenance should I do? I have a lot of programs that I don't want to loose by reinstalling OSX. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Are you finding your computer to be slower than when you got it? OS X is usually pretty good at not deteriorating in performance as windows does over a period of time. The other thing you could do is to upgrade your HDD to a 7200 rpm version.
