[ASUS G73sw] No LAN after BIOS flash

Hello,

A time ago my motherboard died so I decided to buy a new one. After installing the new motherboard I turned on the laptop and flashes the BIOS to enable Intel AES-IN. It worked like a charm, but……. the REALTEK LAN card can’t be found. No wired internet connection. The strange part is that the USB 2.0 port on the LAN board works. How could it be that the LAN port isn’t working??

Tried another LAN card (same as the origin) but same problem. USB 2.0 port works and the LAN port not. Can’t find the REALTEK LAN card in device manager and ipconfig/all gives me ‘no device connected’.

Has it something to do with the BIOS flash or have I bad luck and are both LAN cards to hardware heaven?

 

It's probably something to do with your custom BIOS, maybe you're missing an option ROM?

 

What do you mean with an missing option ROM?

I used the same custom BIOS on my previous motherboard without any problems. Flashing the bios back to the original make no sense. Still no LAN connection and still not visible in device manager.

Also checked the BIOS and LAN is unlocked..... Hope someone can help.

Mac adress of your old realtek lan card stayed in the bios chip of your old motherboard.

If, it's the same hardware, pick up the old bios chip and solder it on your new MB, you will recover your Lan card fully working.

 

Realtek uses its own PHY to store MAC address so perhaps the BIOS disabled the network module. But since the post has been awhile perhaps he got it taken care by now?

When I recieved the new motherboard I throwed away the old one.... So I can't solder the old BIOS chip in the new mobo

Is it possible to generate a new MAC adress for the new motherboard????

 

Till now I haven't fix the problem.... in the BIOS the LAN is unlocked
