hey guys, today i upgraded the bios and vbios of my g73 to 211 and whatever is the current version for the gary key gsod fix beta vbios. i also updated my catalyst drivers from the stock version to 10.8, using a clean reinstall instead of installing on top of the previous driver.

since then, i started to get some sort of keyboard lag. its rather minor so it took some time until i was conviced that im not just making things up. are there any known fixes or explanations for this keyboard lag?

plz note that i do not miss any keystrokes, so this known issue is not what im talking about. ;)

Is there a download link for the original vbios and 206? I'm going to downgrade it and give it a real test. Cause my system this happens every 2 mins after a restart and is real troublesome.

Though, not sure what is worse, the video issues or the touchpad issues.

EDIT: Have 206 bios, need to get the original vBios however.

Look for it at asus website here. In the G73JH section you will find all the BIOSes. Just grab the copy that you need, and don't forget to downgrade using EZFlash (in the BIOS)

Look in this awesome thread (at the bottom) there are some useful links. One of them is the original vBIOS.

BTW, did you already downgrade to 206??? How does your system/touchpad perform??

I just downgraded now, here is what I am running:

    1) Synaptics v7.2
    2) vBios 012.020.000.032 - This is Gary's fixed bios, not stock.
    3) Motherboard Bios 2.06

So far so good, going to give it a bit longer and run some graphic tests to see if the new vbios is stable on 2.06.

I can tell the touchpad seems to be responsive as it should be, however, there is definatly a delay added in my keyboard now. Not much, just about 1/10th of a second each keypress, it's noticible when typing fast.

Update comming in about 15-20 mins while I mess around with it.

Well, just ran FFXIV Benchmark, and it was succesful (somthing it wasn't before with 206 and normal vBios)

Things I noticed - my GPU temp topped at 90 degrees, something that with the 211 bios tops out at 79 degrees. I am repasted with IDC7.

Still no problems with the touchpad however. I'll definatly take 11 degrees temp change with the 206 bios until Asus releases a fix.

I'll still keep you updated to if it happens when it happens, but right now my PC is smooth and usable. 206 bios and new vBios FTW (hope I dont jinx myself). Keyboard input is definatly lagging a little, but I can live with it.

Still running smooth, nothing crashed, touchpad still solid.

Idle GPU temp is @67 (was 59 with 211).

Update - seemed like I had a little hiccup occur, but it wasn't bad, just a lock up for 2-3 seconds, cleared up fine.

    Still running good.

Couple more hiccups, but not neary as bad as the 209+ bios. I'll keep posting until it's evident one bios is better than the other.

When you said hiccup you mean your touchpad, keyboard or the whole system (as little freezing).

Touchpad response. it's not as bad as 209+ but it still happens slightly. Much more livable.

I am running little over an hr and its getting more noticable, where as 209+ it happened right away (within 15 mins).

Going to reboot soon and see if it happens again sooner.

But the issue definatly exists still with 206.

Just an FYI, there is a newer touchpad driver, believe the one from Asus is actually 2009, Synaptics hasn't updated it on their website.

This one is June 2010: Synaptics drivers

After extensive use, I am going to have to conclud that 206 isn't much better than 209+. It does seem to happen less and as frequent, but the issue still occurs.

I can't agree the issue was introduced with the 209 bios. Possibly an earlier one, maybe I'll try the 205 or 204 and see what happens.

I received my unit with the 206 one installed. Everything was fine until the problem appears by the time of the 209 update. Not sure exactly with this or not. My suspects for the problem goes either the BIOS or the PS/2 controller. I know is weird. It's like after awhile the touchpad became choppy. Now I'm using it at performs perfect. But after the first hiccup, never goes back to normal.

thx for the reply nekki, but tbh i dont see how ur thread helps me? it almost exclusively talks about touchpad lag which i neither noticed so far nor care about as im using my laptop with a mouse all the time anyway.

but i found a fix for my problem.^^ i dont remember which thread or source here on nbr.com gave me this idea, but i tried disabling the "amd external events utility" in the windows services. since then my keyboard lag is gone. i checked the old textfiles with a list of my services and their settings and indeed, before i upgraded the bios and vbios and the ati catalyst drivers yesterday, the amd external events utility (in windows services) was indeed deactivated and i had no keyboard lag.

since i reinstalled the catalyst drivers it was suddenly activated, which is because this service is a part of the catalyst software suite, see for example here: AMD Game Forums - Ati External Event Utility

deactivating this service has solved the keyboard lag for me.

just stating this solution here in case someone else in the future encounters the same problems as i did.

cheers and gl fixing the touchpad lag. ;)

Thanks for the tip. I'll testing now. As always, the issue appears after a while, so I'll report later.
