if i am not wrong the AR9285 limits are 150mbps right ?
did someone managed to connect to the N speed of this card

i tried couple of drivers but on mine machine it always connect to 54mbps

so can you tell me if you were able to get the maximum speed of this wifi card (150mbps)

p.s while searching on the internet for a solution i have read somewhere that maybe this mode is locked on the card and kinda unlock it with a tool named Atheros EEPROM Tool

here russians have a thread about it (just translate it)

What's the encryption type your router is using? WEP or WPA/WPA2?

    wpa2 encryption

i have already linked the router with an 300mbps wifi adapter at 150mbps speed (to be more precise 147mbps)

yes there is one more wifi adapter connected (wireless B)
i think i know what you wanted to say if the router will be able to send to 2 clients its max speed , but i dont think the router is the issue
signal is perfect (standing next to the router but i am limited to 56mbps

can someone with G73JH confirm he is getting 150mbps connection and with what driver ?

No no, it's just that if you have some old 802.11g client connected, it might be that you will only see 54 Mbit/s in rare cases.
Which WPA2 encryption is active? AES, CKIP or both? For N speeds you have to enable ONLY AES.

with WPA PSK AES 256bit i am getting 65mbps which is a little improvement but still far away from 150mbps
with WPA PSK TKIP 256bit and WPA PSK AES-TKIP 256bit i am getting 56mbps

Don't have a G73JH but have JW, the stock wifi was also the AR9285. I remember getting 144Mbps on Atheros when using it with Netgear WNDR3700 router. The bandwidth was on 20MHz. After I changed to Intel 6300 I was still getting 144Mbps, but that's before I changed it to DLink and started using 40MHz Bandwidth (240-270Mbps on 6300). Both the Intel and Atheros are using 2 antennas. I recently just swapped the 6300 with Bigfoot Killer N1102, and it's been always 300Mbps with the same 2 antennas since then. Above were all using WPA2 PSK AES.

I didn't have chance to test the AR9825 with the new router as I gave it away before changing.

However with the Atheros AR9285 I remember getting only 65Mbps in my friend's house. He's using WPA2 PSK AES.

My G73JH-A2 also uses the AR9285 and ever since I check my wireless network link speed via Task Manager, it always displays a maximum speed of 65Mbps. And when I checked HWiNFO64 just now, it says that my AR9285 has only a maximum link speed of 65Mbps. Am I missing something with my machine? Is there a way to get higher than the 65Mbps without changing the AR9285 network card?

You need WPA2-AES if you want to be able to attain N speeds most of the time. Depending on your router, you might need to set the wireless settings to N only rather than mixed mode too. The stock Atheros card isn't very good so depending on your range, interference and router 65Mbps could be normal.

when i had the Atheros in my G73, i was getting between 65 and 150Mbps depending on my location.

Although I know you want to get your current card working well, might be worth upgrading to an intel 6200 or similar. I reckon the $20 for the card was the best bang for bucks I have done on my laptop.. the old card used to drop occasionally and connect slower than it should. With the 6200 never had a problem with any network, and the speed difference over my linksys e4200 router was from 800k/sec torrenting (original card) to 1.4meg/sec!

There it is, only WPA2-PSK (or any other WPA2 method) with AES is allowed to be active. Only then it's guaranteed to provide 802.11N speeds. Also WMM should be active (if you can enable it somewhere, often behind multimedia settings).
Also check if you have the latest Atheros driver, try also to use some beta releases found over the internet.
Oh, what you also could try, open the laptop and turn the antenna cables on the wifi card by 1 mm, so that they are moved a little and thus, maybe dirty contacts, are ok again.

i love this Atheros card (becouse its fully compatibility with Backtrack) so there is no way i am changing it
the router is not the problem ( i have a mini chineese wifi adapter Realtek 8191 Chipset) and it connects perfectly at 150mbps
with WPA PSK AES cant go above 65mbps

i will try adhoc and see how it connects

did someone actually read this ? (translate it from russian)

I did not read it, as I don't understand russian and also dislike tranlation services as they could false important text parts.
As far as I remember, I had 144 Mbit/s with my original Atheros card, but switched to Intel 6200.

Can happen, might be worth to try some of the current beta drivers. They usually bring newer firmware for the card with them (at least with Intel it's the case).

Nothing new, cheap Atheros (you could also upgrade to a high end Atheros) adapters are just that, cheap crappy stuff and that's exactly what is in the G73.
