I think this dude at this YouTube video put the tape back on his touchpad =)
-
yes i saw that
so should i put only the top one and straight into that metal? -
I put the sticky tape back on it made no difference to me my problem was all foil!
-
ok i have put only the top one like in the video
will see how it works
so now assembly it to the end and see the temperatures
thanks for the quick help -
after mounting it those are my first readings
are the temperatures good what do you think
i was kinda expecting lower temperatures to be honest
and i feel the CPU temperature jumps a lot for example from 43 to 50 , 55 ... maybe the paste isnt healed still ?
room temperature 28-29 C

At your ambient temperature those are perfectly normal. I saw high 40's upto 50 in the UK at barely 20oC. The 720QM is just that way.
As the 5870M does not downclock properly those are also normal. At your ambient temperature you will struggle to see lower. -
now GPU is 56C
until the paste is healed how do you reccomend to use the laptop ? light usage ? no gaming for maybe 1 day ?
i should have spread the paste at the whole surface and make it flat equal .... dont you think
i used the pea size method -
Ignore idle that will all be your ambient temperature and as said if you are 10oC hotter than me add 10oC to your idle temps I was seeing 49-50oC so you could easily be seeing 60oC.
Check your load temps as long are you are below 90oC you are fine. Did you use ICD? its going to be best in your case. -
regarding to this picture it is in top 3 so that's why i choosed it
-
Arctic silver 5? Get with the times man that stuff is no longer dope
ICD all the way for the JH it makes sure the stupid Asus made gaps between the heatsink are filled. -
I just re did mine with ICD.
Max temps after 8 hours if furmark were 75C on the GPU never broke that. Pretty safe I think huh? -
i really dont know but have you look at the picture i posted in the first page ?
IC7 Diamond is far behind
those results are from February 2012 from the site hardwaresecrets
anyway i just wanted to share my experience is that the spread method works best for me
the small dot method gave me 2 C higher temperature and i did it right
i have tested this on a old Nvidia 8600GT
honestly i dont like my temperatures i think i will repaste again with the spread method on the G73JH, i am just waiting for that gum thermal pad to replace it with new ones
at the moment of writing i am reading GPU - 56-57 C , CPU - 48
i remember my CPU was going bellow 43 C with stock temperatures -
So someone really tested chocolate

The reason ICD is highly recommended for this laptop is because ICD performs well even under poor contact situations (when the chip and heatsink arent flush together, gaps and stuff, etc) such is the case for our beloved JH. The reason it doesnt score that well compared to other thermal pastes is even under perfect contact situations, the temps dont improve that much. In other words, ICD performs rather ok regardless of contact situation, unlike other brands which could perform better or worse depending on how level the heatsink is to the die.
As for me, I just purchased 5g of prolimatech pk-1 to repaste this weekend. I've been hitting high 90's/low 100'sWill let you know how that goes. I'd get ICD7 but the only place selling it here is charging $40 USD :O
and I lol'd at the chocolate part
