    Hi all :)

I'm new here, and I decided to create a account for ask you a question.

Since 1 month, i've got the Asus G73Jh-TY101V (this is a french model, so yes i'm french). And since i've had it, i've got a lot of problems... GSOD, bug with touchpad,...

And since 20 days approximately, on all my games, the field of view is really low. So i've recovered my G73, but this is always the same thing...

For example, on Crysis, some rocks, or trees, or other things put a lot of time to appear. I must to be at 5 meter of them if I want to see them.
On Just Cause 2, sometimes, I can see a lot of little black points on a big surface on the floor... Strange...
Always on Crysis, I've got some graphics bug too, for example:

    http://s2.noelshack.com/old/up/crysis_bug_lumire-62f53cba32.swf

Look the red chinese lantern. This bug appear when a light is thrown on these chinese lantern. Same thing on cardboard boxses, pan,...

Do you have the same problems? Do you think this problem is hardware or software?

Thanks and sorry if my english is bad ;)
PS: The community of portables4gamers.com (I come from this site) thanks Gary and your forum to have find the keyboard light bug problem ;)

Okay, thanks! :) I thought that this problem of light was related with the field of view problem.

    Other answer?

FYI Field of View is to describe the width of view. Like 90 degrees, 78 degrees. For most 1080p screens the recommended FOV is 78 Degrees.

What you are talking about is distance, how far in the distance you can see.

Yes this is what I mean, sorry if I've said it badly.
I thought "field of view" was that.

draw distance is handled by each game's engine. There can't be anything set globally on the laptop to make the draw distance bad for all games. I think a lot of engines determine their draw distance based on the capabilities of your GPU and how much RAM it has. Did half your vRAM go bad or something? I don't even know if that is possible. Run GPUz and make sure everything you see is correct. There is another user having problems and his GPUz is showing the GPU to be on PCI Express x2 instead of x16. He's getting low frame rates.

The X2 is a mobo thing, not a GPU. The PCIE settings are set by the motherboard, not the GPU. IMO all he has to do is take his G73 apart and reset the CMOS by taking out the battery and putting it back in. If he doesn't want to do that, then he'll have to RMA it.

    I will try GPUz.

So for you, if I want to solve my problem, I must to reset the CMOS, or "RMA" it? I don't really understand what is RMA and CMOS, but I will look for it on google now ;)

EDIT: Okay, i've understand. RMA is what you called the Asus technic help right (in France this is SAV: Service Après Vente)? And reset the CMOS mean reset the BIOS right? But if I reset the CMOS, do you think that this distance problem will stop? For me, I think that I need to edit a data of the ATI drivers who control all the distance view of all 3D applications. Maybe I dream...

No, RMA means sending your laptop to Asus because of the laptop isn't funtioning properly(GSOD, broken screen, faulty BD drive, whatever).

I don't think BIOS reset would do the job and I am not sure if it is worth a try. I agree with Jody that FOV is handled by game's engine. What do you mean by "all my games"?

If you have access to another computer, install the game(s) on it and compare notes. The computer shouldn't have anything to do with the rendered distance. That's set inside the game.

When I say all my games, that's because this distance problem appear on all my games.
For example, on Unreal Tournament 3, on the Suspens map, when I'm to the bottom of the map, and when I look the up of the central tower of the map, I can see a big black thing instead of the architecture of the up of the tower, and when I move to the direction of it, I can see it better.

On Just Cause 2, sometimes I can see a lot of little black point on a large surface on the floor...

On Mirror's Edge, I must to be close of some things like air vent if I want to see them, like in Crysis for the rocks and plants.

And yeah I will try to do a big comparaison of all these games with my desktop, and if this is really better on the desktop... I think I will RMA my G73... And if these problems is always appear, I will ask a refund.

I'm tired of this laptop
