I bought the G73jh from BestBuy about six month ago, and now I am thinking to replace my 1600 x 900 screen to 1920 x 1080
Question 1
Does it really make a HUGE difference, from 900p to 1080p?
It will probably be a $150 upgrade, so I just want to ask the people in here about your experience of switching the screen![]()
I found some comparison Picture before and after the upgrade in this forums, just wondering if there is more picture for me to see.
Question 2
Next, what are the compatible screen types for G73jh?
Here is some screen I found
AUO 17.3 B173HW01 V.4 click for the detail spec.

Question3
In this AUOs report said the Pixels H x V is 1920*1050 should I believe this is a typo ?
HannStar 17.3 HSD173PUW1
LG 17.3 LP173WF1-TLC1
Question 4
The power consumption on my current screen is about 7.5W
And the AUOs 17.3 screens power consumption is 15W. if I do switch the screen, Will this be a problem for the power supply while I play game?
Finally... Last Question
Glossy or Matte!?!?!?
please vote~ and maybe give me some reason for why?![]()
Thanks for reading my threat.

should have thought of that before you bought it. 1600 x 900 is plenty fine

and thinking I can do upgrade myself later on too -
I'm getting my new 1080 panel in on Monday. I'll tell you how it goes.
From a spec standpoint, the 1080 panel is superior in every way. And yes, the computer can handle it. Don't forget all the other G73's come with 1080 panels. -
Full HD panels for the most part are of superior build quality to the 900p panels, esp with viewing angles. Just the way they are being made I guess.
-
From strictly a brightness perspective, the B173HW01 V.4 that I swapped in to replace the stock HSD173PUW1 is so crazy bright, with really stark whites and blacks. If you hold an ipad or a nookcolor next to it for comparison, both tablets on max brightness look very dim; the horizontal viewing angles are very close to the tablets. The B173HW01 V.0 and V.4 is made in taiwan, and the HSD173PUW1 is made in china, if that makes any difference to you.

i have the AUO full HD pannel and it is bright.. its quite nice actually.. Personally i suggest you get that but if you can , try getting the LG full HD pannel.. that would be better than both i think.

Glossy or Matte, and Which brand is it?
on ScreenCountry, the G73 1080p Glossy made from AUO(I asked them) is $140
but if I go into the [B173HW01 V.4] site, it's only $120, don't know why...
Can't wait to see your result
but actually both of them are taiwan-base company, very famous
can you tell me what is the reason you decided to switch your panel?
aren't they both 1080p?
How much did that cost you?
Sorry, I ask a lot of straight question. I hope I didn't make you guys uncomfortable -
I ordered from LaptopScreen.com. I should be getting a Hannstar panel, though I'm not sure which version.
It is glossy. I'm sticking with glossy.
I was going to get a B173HW01 V.4, since I've heard good things about it, but I couldn't find the panel itself for less than $170. ScreenCountry has it for $128.99, (although it doesn't specifically say that is the panel they are selling, it may be a "comparable" screen.) but this makes me suspicious. They also don't label their screens with the exact model number or brand. I just went with LaptopScreen since another user here apparently had a good experience. -
I got the AUO B173HW01 V.4 for about $95
My friend is going to being it over here. hopefully it will be good by the time it arrive here
Can you take photos during the disassembly process?
I did repast my CPU and GPU, but had never take apart the screen, so am not sure where are the screw hidden at.
And before and after photos please
I should post one too after I did mine. -
I followed this guide:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...84-upgrading-g73jh-best-buy-screen-guide.html
Except,
1) I didn't remove any other panels (it's a direct swap - the connector is on the same side as original); use some narrow pliers to remove the two rubber grommets at the bottom of the lcd bezel. Try not to touch the sticky backing on the rubber grommets, so they remain sticky when re-installing them. Remove the two screws exposed under the grommets. Next, carefully unsnap the bezel - take your time. The bezel is delicate, but it's actually stronger than other bezels I've removed.
2) The connector is very fragile - again, take your time. Study the connection very closely before removing it; it's secured at the lcd end at the plug - do not just pull on the plug to "loosen it up". I freed the plug very slowly by using a small flat screwdriver (approx 1mm end). If you free each end of the connector, it just comes out with little to no force.
3) Before snapping the bezel back on, power up the machine for a test, and prepare to be amazed at the glaring brightness and amazing viewing angles! At this point, also note how bright the "blue effect" leds are, and how little light is passed through the plastic filter on the bottom of the panel. I might mod this later to "strengthen" the blue led effect.
Some other notes: Windows does not cope well with the 92% NTSC profile by default; always use a tag-aware browser (google this), and when editing photos/video, be sure your application supports Adobe RGB. -
Sorry, I didn't remember to get an pictures. It really is simple. Just remove the screws and pop it out. The connector on mine came off very easily.
My new screen is very sharp and colors and whites are fantastic. It's an AUO 109D.
However, there's a single bright dot almost directly in my field of view and blacks have a distinct green to them. I've contacted Laptopscreens.com and I am looking to getting my money back or a replacement. Not holding my breath.
The connector on mine had a piece of plastic tape attached to it that acted like a tab. I just pulled the tab and the connector came out without a problem.
Lol. Laptopscreens.com is telling me that my G73 can't handle the 1920x1080, that's why there's a bright dot and a green hue on blacks.
Do they think I'm dumb or are they just idiots? -

The issues you are reporting are consistent with wrong resolution screen - we have seen several cases with this laptop model not working with 1920x1080 LCD and virtually never when the original screen was 1920x1080.
Therefore, while I respectfully disagree with your opinion that the resolution is not the issue, we will gladly exchange the screen or refund the purchase upon safe delivery of the screen back to warehouse. -

Should I go with one of the screens from the link, or get the B173HW01 v.4?
