Hi guys,
since im bored with steam classic look i thought "there should be an asus rog skin somewhere!".

Ive found this by matmarch: GameBanana: Asus G53SW v1.0 (GUIs > Steam > Steam V4 > Asus G53SW v1.0)
Its not bad, but its ugly in many ways. Some backgrounds have been just copy and pasted without any design idea, it was a big mess of colors and icons.

So i thought it would be cool if i modify it using his work as a base.
Credits for the original skin goes to matmarch!

Changelog version 1.2:
- Reworked Friends list layout, panel and CSS style to make it compatible with latest beta client and stable version that supports Trade features, chat groups
- Disabled momentanely the friend list background, anything else is working as it was before, due to css compiling issues

Changelog version 1.1:
- Reworked top bar graphics,better logo/signature reading,more clean
- Reworked downloadapp layout,now is possible to see progress bar,no more broken
- Reworked bottom bar graphics,better logo placement,status notifications readable now
- added 3 versions: AMD/NVIDIA 1st Gen, Sandy Bridge Gen as well

Changelog version 1.0:
- Completely redesigned the top bar and the bottom bar
- Added Carbon background finish to both bars, chat window
- Completely redone Friend List background and Frame
- Added a few logos in the bottom bar
- Corrected a few typos here and there, plus changed some colors

Installation:
- Download the rar
- Extract it into Steam/Skins (be sure that it doesnt make a double folder, inside there should be folders like Resource,Graphics..etc)
- Launch Steam->Settings->Skins
- Choose the Skin and restart Steam

- Notes -
This is a 5 minutes work since most of the things have been done by matmarch: however if you like it grab it and use it as you wish.
I think that now it looks more sleek and professional.

Again, credits to matmarch for the original skin. Be sure to download his one as well!

Version 1.1 is up and as promised now there are 3 versions, 2 for 1st gen users with either nvidia or amd card and one for SB users.

ok, I am somewhat new to these type things, i have downloaded and have rar file inmy downloads. Now what do I do?

Installation instructions are in first post mate
Anyway open the rar, you will see a folder inside named like the rar.
Extract this folder in steam\skins directory.
Now open steam, go into settings,interface,select the skin from the dropdown menu.
Steam should ask for a restart, do it and you'll be fine

Yeah sure no problem. Is it 1080p or 900p?
I actually took it into consideration as well, I may edit all the skins with i5 logo as well.
Edit: I see you have the 1080p screen from your sig model.
I'll arrange a version and add an Xtreme CPU version as well.

LOVE the skin, but finding a problem that will keep it from being used...

I have friends online, yet nothing shows up in my friends screen. I see them on my Steam webpage, on my friends page of the Steam Community window, yet the smaller mini Friends window that opens separately shows none of them.



you can see the Webpage, the Steam Community page both showing online friends but the smaller Friends window shows nothing. I tried downloading the files again and re-installing them but the same thing happened. Ideas?


EDIT:
NEVER MIND!! Found the problem - I had opted into the beta test for the new Steam game trades. I backed OUT of the beta and now everything works as it should. Don't need the game trades anyways... the skin is way better!

I wish there was a blue version. I know red is RoG and stuff but I like blue better.

 

Sorry but I am still having trouble. I cant open the RAR file after download. Can Win 7 open on its own or do i need something to do so? If figured it would be a zip file but it is not. Anytime T try to open it ask for a what program to ipen with.

Any chance that the icons on the lower screen edge of the main window could be dimmed? the 'Powered by THX', Radeon, Blue Ray logo and so on? Or is there an easy way for us to do it? I'd like them dimmer if possible...

 

Well yes I can mod it, do you want it like half-trasparent or just with lower contrast/dimmer?

 

either way would be great, just so they are toned down a tad.

And also... new update today officially supports the Trade feature - and the skin is broken as it was before for me with the beta test of the trade feature...

 

i have a problem. when i use the skin (900p or hd one) my friends list doesn't show. but if i use the default skin its fine. check ss for details.

Friends menu showing up blank for me, not opted into any betas either. Fix?

it's because what WAS the beta is now the standard install. The friends list will stay blank until a fix is applied to the skin...

 

Guys ill work on it asap, im kinda busy in these days due to work, but il definitely look into it

Working on it guys. The trade feature basically renewed the whole CSS layot of friends list and all the skin modders are slowly updating their ones.

Im looking into the issue, have faith

 

Version 1.2 will be uploaded soon, as i resolved the Friend List/Chat/Group issue with beta and newer client update.

Please note that this is more than an hotfix, not a major overhaul due time....anyway the friend list BG had to go, as i compile the CSS from zero.

But anything else like chat window bg etc is working as it should. I guess its ok.

I'm using this on my desktop as well as my laptop, any thoughts on how I can re-size this for a 1680x1050 resolution? The logo's on the top and bottom right are almost off the screen on my desktop.

 

Skins are made either for 900p or 1080p resolution, that's why the resource file looks messy at 1680x1050.
I may edit one for you, but I guess you have this problem only on desktop right?

 

Yes, the G53SW displays fine at 1080p, love the skin, is there a 900p version of the Asus ROG Sandy Bridge?
