FIXED: Post #14 http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/583967-g73jh-bios-update-fail-2.html#post7572561
I updated to v213 ok, powered up and sorted my settings, saved & exited, and rebooted.
Now it just sits there mocking me with its Asus logo on the screen and doing nothing else.
KB & Blue lights came on but that's it. No amount of F2F2F2F2F2 etc. or sticking my thingy in the reset hole will change it's mind.
Am i now another not-so-proud owner of another Asus G73 paperweight, or is there a fix that i've not found?
Cheers,
G.

reset bios settings?? can you access bios?
-
flip it over and press down the reset button (you'll need a pin or something very thin) for 10 seconds. If that fails, remove battery and AC power, and hold down the power button for 20 secs.

the BIOS?
-
Just sits there showing the Asus logo.
After reading other posts i came to the conclusion that the reset button doesn't seem to reset anything lol. -

What method did you use to update your BIOS?

It booted fine until you saved the settings?
You can try removing the CMOS battery for 10+ seconds, if you are comfortable with disassembling the laptop.

Yup, it was fine till then.
I really don't want to go there if i can help it, unless it is definately a fix. The last £1000+ laptop i took to bits (Qosmio F10) is still in bits lol.
I was hoping there is a BIOS recovery mode that i don't know of. Something like putting a specifically named .bin on a USB stick while re-booting and playing twister on the keyboard or something. -
you seem to have already tried the standard methods. Can you get to a DOS prompt via a USB stick at this point? If you do not want to take the machine apart as Allur suggests, I guess you could try a blind flash for the BIOS assuming you can get to a DOS prompt. If you need a detailed procedure let us know. -
Why not just take it to a local repair shop and let them reset it?
-
Try the cmos battery (potential) fix.
I know you dont want to take it apart, but seriously, if you just go about it slowly you should be fine. There are several disassembly videos around, the latest being Blackluc's vid. -
Fixed
I started the disassembly and got as far as taking the drives out and thought i'd give it one more go, as it worked for someone with a similar problem. It did.
It seems to not like the 2nd drive anymore after the update. But other than that, back to normal now.
Thanks for all the info guys. Muchly appreciated
btw. Any way of re-naming the thread to show solved? -
One thing U can do is edit the OP (first post) with a link to the solution or brief resolution summary. I seen people do this it is great to avoid having to read long threads that sometime veer off topic.
To get the post renamed requirers a Moderator; if it is possible.
Glad to hear your issue is fixed! -
Thx Josea

Whoa I seem to remember this being mentioned once before ... I guess it's not a coincidence. I should have mentioned the standard "remove RAM sticks, hard drives" troubleshooting steps. Sorry.
-
. I have to force myself to remember to ask the basic questions sometimes.
-
Well it did actually boot with no probs before so i naturally assumed all components were fine. The last post i read where it worked after removing the drives was one where the unit wouldnt even switch on.
Ah well, mystery solved at least. And hopefully somebody else will learn from another n00bish mistake lol.
