    hi guys
As [un]happy owner of g73jh I had problems with GSOD, its when the screen is gray and black vertical stripes.

Thanks to this forum I solved this problem. I have updated bios, vbios, thermal paste and now have ati ccc 14.4 version.

    But there's new problem:
I can play BF3 for 15 minutes maximum and if previously it was ending with gsod, now the game just freezing. Just fatal freeze with sound like in gsod or without this.

    I'm in stuck, friends.

P.s. I tried ALL catalyst versions including betas.

I think you are still having GPU stability problems. How hot is the GPU getting? Does it go over 100C?

The Radeon 5870 in the G73jh has been an endless source of trouble. Some people got lucky and got one that is solid. I returned a troublesome G73jh and got a replacement with a solid one. But other people just struggle endlessly with trying different hacks to make it work reliably.

The vBIOS update addressed a specific problem with some of the Radeon boards. There are a few revisions of the Radeon 5870 card. One of the revisions would only work with the original ASUS Radeon driver that is still for download. If you ran another driver on the trouble Radeon cards, you would GSOD in games after a few minutes. The VBIOS did something to fix that problem.

How hot is it getting since you repasted it? Does it go beyond 100 C?

You might want to try to update your Soundcard (Realtek) and also Mouse driver. BF3 is known to make some problems, but many other games, including bf4, should run fine.

    Hello asssama212,

I too play BF3 a lot on my G73JH-A2 and I never had any GSOD issues. I am using Chastity's vBIOS and currently using Catalyst 14.3. You said you have updated your vBIOS already. Could you check your AMD Catalyst Control Center -> Information -> Product Summary -> Hardware -> BIOS Version if it is something like 012.020.000.032? If it is, then you indeed have the updated vBIOS.

It seems to me that your GSOD issues is caused by your Catalyst driver. Are you using an updated (14+) Catalyst driver? How did you install it just in case? I am asking this because the stock Catalyst driver is not compatible with the updated vBIOS. And most probably, if you recently replaced the stock Catalyst driver with a newer one (14+) I'm assuming that you weren't able to properly uninstall the stock Catalyst driver.

What I can suggest to you is do a fresh install of your Windows OS and then install the latest Catalyst drivers after you update your Windows OS (until you have all the necessary Windows updates e.g. Service Pack 1, Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5, etc)

So, my bios is actually 012.020.000.032.
I deleted old catalyst and stock driver and checked this with driver sweeper
On my pc now is Windows 7 SP1 license
I started think that Bf3 is not compactible with pc :D

    Could you try this approach?

    1. Go to Computer Management -> Device Manager
    2. Click the Display adapters arrow, then right-click "AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series" and uninstall.=
    3. Check the "Delete the driver software for this device", then click OK
    4. Restart PC then do a follow-up cleanup using driver sweeper and clean leftovers of previous Catalyst driver
    5. Install an updated Catalyst driver

I used driver sweeper, it is special program that clean drivers in register and anywhere
btw, bf4 runs good and I have no more wish to play in bf3

    but I'll try your advice
