Hey there folks...
COuld someone tell me the cons and pros of gaming in the above mentioned 2 different resolutions?
I cant make up my mind and I need help.
So far 1080p gave me a bit better quality
while
1024p gave me a more smoother gameplay.
What are your thoughts?
In which resolution do you guys game?
-
1980x1080 higher pixel usage and more bandwidth required - lower FPS
1600x1024 lower pixel usage and less bandwidth required - higher FPS
Image quality is going to be better the higher resolution you can reach but is going to put more strain on the card to produce the results. Especially on a mobile GPU.
I use 1600x900 and im happy with it and I see better frames from more recent games that struggle at 1080p but people claim the difference is pretty substantial and I agree, just do the math and you see the difference in pixels. -
Hey there Dallers
Well to be honest I am using Asus g73sw's LCD screen to play with 1600*1024
at least it has such an option in the menu of Bad Company 2 and I select it.
When running BC2 I cant see anything else in 1600s beside 1024p

Here is the screenshot...
I assume 1600*900 is right between
1280*720 and 1900*1080 and I would like to have that resolution as well.
Any ideas why I dont?
Besides that I totally agree that 1600 resolutions smoothness and frames especially in modern games are the way to go for this laptop it seems. -
1080p is usefull and preferable if u often watch movies in high detailed 1080p.
i own g73sw with 1080p, and got g73jh-rbbx for temporary service replacement.
i have to say when i got my g73sw with 1080p.im in love with the screen. the pixel screen is really dense and highly detailed. contrast between black and white is really awesome. till i got g73jh-rbbx, everything seems degrade, screen quality is like 9 and 7.. for gaming it benefits me, since with 1600x900 i can get more highultraquality in games bcs of smaller pixel, but the screen quality is bad (the density of pixel, color vibrant, the superior screen contrast in 1080p).
too me it is ok playing with 1600x900 or lower resolution but sadly i can't accept how bad the screen quality they provide in 1600x900
conclusion is i dont care in what resolution i play as long screen quality is awesome ( the density of screen pixel, contrast, color)
i assure you too compare both 1600x900 and 1080p screen with your own eyes. and also you can buy your own laptop screen in ebay/amazon and replace it with your preferred resolution (i think this void guarantee) -
As above the reason for better gameplay all comes down to how fast the GPU can process the Pixel Fillrate and also how much bandwidth is required for that resolution. You should be ok to run BC2 at 1080p because I do and get good frames while doing so but I see on average 8+ more FPS by running at native 900p. -
Thank you both for the answers but I believe that my screen does not support 1600*900 at all
I have the g73sw from amazon and when i look at all the available resolutions via the Nvidia Control Panel, all I can see are
1900*1080p
1600*1024
1400*1050
1366*768
and so on
I beleive I have a different quality of a monitor than yours. And the specs are different too.
Weird.
Anyway it seems like i will give 1600*1024 a shot, however I hate it that in some games it looks stretched a bit (bad company 2)
In assasins creed it does not fit the entire screen. The game plays as if i have a 15 inch monitor. -
Still 1600x1024 is 380x56 or 21280 pixels lower than 1080p. So thats why your performance is a lot smoother. -
Thanks for the clarification
However I wonder why 1600*900 would not be offered.
It seems strange as it is just between 720p and 1080p
Anyway off I go 1600 for a while. -
yes of course, if you set resolution anything than your native res in LCD everything will looks blur. that is cons of LCD -
It Should be 1920x1080, 1680x1050 and 1400x1050...
At least this is what I got with my G73jh -
Sorry about the 1900
It is 1920*1080
but the rest is different with my gy3sw
1920*1080
1600*1024
1400*1050
1366*768
1280*1024
1280*960
1280*720
1152*864
1024*768
800*600
These are all the resolutions i have.
I selected CUSTOMIZe and created 1400*900 resolution.
I could play Assasins Creed 2 by sselecting this resolution. Prior it was not available.
However I could not play BC2 with this resolution as it automatically converted to another resolution.
1900*1080p vs 1600*1024p
