I have a Intel X25-M 80gb ssd as my main drive and the 500gb momentus Hard Disk. I install windows and my apps on the ssd and games and storage on the 500gb but i'm running out of space. I've been looking into getting a 1tb 2.5 notebook drive but is there any makes i should look at or any that i should not touch. Aso will the 1tb drive fit in the g73jh caddys.

The 2.5" drives are either 12.5mm thick or 15mm I cant remember, so they will not properly fit in the bays under the laptop. The only real option you have is to go with a 3rd bay in the dvd drive if you want to go to 1tb.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I would also get the WD 1tb drive.

Do you mean remove dvd drive and replace with hard drive. If so i don't want to do that.

the 1TB 2.5'' are too thick and usually don't fit in most laptops. Wait a year or two or get the 750GB ones.

Yea, I'm doing it to mine in a few days. There is 0 point in a DVD drive. I download all my games anyways, via steam. If you really think you'll need it, you can buy a case and stick it in your bag. :-D

But again, the 2.5 1TB drives will not go in the HDD caddies.

I just ordered a caddy so I can have a extra hard drive in the dvd bay. I have the same setup x25 80gb ssd and the 500gb 7200rpm drive. Is there any point in using 7200rpm drives when the ssd handles the os and apps? I could get bigger 5400rpm drives and maybe less heat.

If you are going to use it for media and such then a 5400 RPM drive would be fine, but I wouldn't use it for games. You also should realize that alot of the new 5400RPM drives are much faster because of the larger caches and platters being more defined. What drive do you have in the DVD bay, your extra 500?

It will be using the extra 500gb 7200rpm but the hard drive caddy is still in the mail. I just think that there might be something like a 1tb 5400rpm coming out soon so a pair of those and a 240gb ssd would probably do the trick for storage.

Right on thanks. There is 750gb that do fit on there. I was almost upset thinking what do I really need the caddy then for if there is 1tb already. It just sucks when drives are full and start having to erase stuff. The other 500gb in there will probably last a while though.

i am using 1 x 1TB hdd in bay, 1 x 128 GB SSD in other bay, 1 TB .hdd in 3rd bay in dvd drive.

before getting ssd, i was using 2 x 1 TB hdd's on both bays under the laptop.
12,5mm wont be a problem with orginal hdd bays.

So your saying tergunt that 12.5mm hard drives will fit in the original hdd bays. Everyone seems to have conflicting advice.

Are you positive? IF you could take some pictures of the caddy's themselves with the drives in them and then how they sit and it sealed, that'd be awesome.

@tergunt are you using the 1TB with or without a drive caddy? What model drive is it?

I've got the same setup as you. But I don't feel like I'm running out of room - 500gb is really, REALLY big, and if you're using your laptop for professional work ... you chose the wrong laptop. No esata, no firewire, unreliable USB 3.0 ...

I guess I'm saying that there is no reasonable explanation for having filled 500gb *and* requiring it to be stored internally. Don't get me wrong, I'm getting a 1tb drive and dropping it in my disk bay eventually. I just don't think it's an unreasonable setup as is.

Interesting, everyone always said a 12.5mm drive wouldn't fit. I never had one to try myself. Thanks for the pics.
