So I think I'm one of the lucky few that found a stable G73. I'm not trying to brag, but this is just to prove that there are a handul of G73s out there that can run reference drivers.
I apologize for the lack of screen real estate, but this is an RBBX05.

Just for the record, I have never experienced a GSOD on this machine. The previous two I owned, that's another story. I'm running the original v209 BIOS that shipped with my laptop and the stock vBIOS. Aside from FurMark, I've also played numerous hours of SC2 and WoW over the past week since I received this laptop.

Can you explain what you did to do a clean install? For me, going from 10.6 to 10.7 still gave me GSOD problems. 10.6 to 10.7a gave me some weird stuttering and black horizontal bars.
-
Actually, I'm running totally stock. I didn't mess with Asus' install.
-
Interesting... Date on the back?

Looks great Dkumagai, now all you need is a repaste for some better temps and she should serve you very well.

Umm, quick question, if you have a RBBX05, how are you running 1920x1080?
External monitor?
If not, then you should be at 1600x900.
I wonder if the stability issues are primarily with the built-in display? If all are stable via the HDMI port, then it probably is a vBIOS issue, not a hardware issue. -
Its no different running it on HDMI. Still get GSODs.

@HellCry: Manufactured in June of 2010.
@The Beast: My desktop resolution is 1600x900, I was running FurMark windowed at a resolution of 1920x1080 to conform to HellCry's standard.
@Chastity: Repasting, possibly also lapping, next week. Wish me luck.

When I crack her open I'll make sure I check the video memory chips, maybe they're using different/better memory now.

If they changed the parts used on the GPU, I think they owe us all a new one. Or else we can just all RMA our machines and demand the GPU be replaced. Either way, we'll get it done.

If I remember correctly my video memory chips are from Hynix.

If it's all stock, many problematic machines run fine on stock (unless I misunderstood something)
-
And how did you do the ati driver installation? -
My temp was in the screenshot, about 100C with the back elevated. I get around 88C now that I've repasted with ICD.
I installed 10.7a by:
1. uninstalling CCC and the stock drivers.
2. rebooting into safe mode to run driversweeper.
3. rebooting then installing 10.7.
4. rebooting then installing 10.7a -
:| 12 degrees from re-pasting. WOW!!!
So that means a re-paste is a must then. -
Chastity got even better results than mine. She saw a 20C+ drop in temps. Note the 88C is just my memIO temp. My shader and dispIO are under 80C even in FurMark.
I still feel like repasting is optional unless you're getting shutdowns from heat. Supposedly anything under 110C is within normal operating range. Personally, I feel better about my temps being significantly under than though. -
I also ran furmark last night for about an hour and the temps never went above 88 degrees celcius. It seems this is a temp ceiling or something. I am very happy
-
I did the same thing with mine ran Furmark for over 40 min no problem... played COD 4 20 min GSOD...

no need to install 10.7 first. 10.7a is a complete driver set
2 hours of FurMark with 10.7a
