When I first tested out my particular G73 (209 bios) Furmark took the GPU to 106c and then crashed the computer. Since then the computer has had intermittent bootup problems.

    Today I am running 211 Bios, Gary's vBIOS (012.020.000.032.038352), and Catalyst 10.8

I am now running furmark for 1 hour straight @ 91c! Also I have not been able to repeat the boot up issues I had a day ago.

I am surprised also. Perhaps when the computer crashed on that first initial Furmark run, it was not related to Furmark at all, that still doesn't change the fact that the temperature was 106c then and it is 91c now. Perhaps it is the ambient air temperature. I am at work right now and we keep the AC in the mid to high 60's. That has to help. The house where I bought it was probably in the high 70's.

The fan ramps up faster at a lower temp. We know, that's what the 211 Bios is all about.

Because of the ambient temperature or because of the unpredicability of this computer?

Fortunately I don't game at home (I'm married), only at work after hours.

ambient temps have an effect on your overall gpu temp. Having good airflow like a fan or laptop cooler will help. Repasting will be cheaper but involves taking apart the laptop.

Maybe that sounds worse than it is, I choose not to game at home, we watch a lot of movies as a family. With a two year old and a newborn a few weeks out, I've got way too much on my hands to start a 4 hour MW2 battle. One day when both the kids are in school (still 5 years out), then maybe I'll take some time for at home gaming, but not until then. I have a job where I have spend a lot of time at work (waiting for something to happen). After work is done and I'm just standing by, I can game there and it doesn't affect my family life.

LOL tell your wife that it's not nearly as long as the back 9 on a good course, and that she should be glad that you're not a golf player. Also, explain to her that you'd like to be at home as much as possible, and you stay at work to avoid playing at home ... so you could be home more if you played at home.

My G73 cooling the same, with bios 209 or bios 211.

About 68º in idle & 95/96º in Full 3D (crysis or Starcraft)
