Hello! Just got a G73 from Best Buy and I rigged up a 2nd hard drive. (3M double sided tape lol) But I can't get it to recognize in windows. I open up Drive Management and it sees the drive but it says it's offline. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks! :D

You have to right-click on the drive and "initialize" it.

Go to Contol Panel > Under the Adminitrative tool click on Create and format hard disk partitions, that should send you to the Disk Management where you can format/create the partitions so its recognized by the OS.

Being quite new to notebooks I'm strongly considering buying this one.
As i reside in Norway (25% VAT), I got to pay $3100 for a ASUS G73JH i7 820QM w/ 2x500 GB 7200 RPM HDD. The local suppliers don't offer SSDs on this one yet, so as a 'noob' I was wondering if there's any problem installing a SSD later on (replacing one of the HDDs) for the OS? would this affect ASUS' warranty? (I guess SSDs are a bit cheaper in 6-12 months from now)
In advance, thanks for any info :)

Wow, prices are quite high overseas. I'd imagine a boutique brand such as Clevo or Sager would be even higher priced.

If your laptop came with two hard drives then I would simply keep the original OS drive in storage. So, if you need any warranty service, simply swap out the SSD with the original OS drive. Then, send it in for warranty service.

I usually save the oem installation as a backup image or the actual hard drive itself. (Place the oem image on my new hard drive then set aside the hard drive with the oem installation.) If there are any problems, it can be reinstalled and be back to its' factory fresh state with no hassle.

I like to backup the system partition to an USB HDD using Acronis Home 2010. I make one of my initial setup, then make a second of incrementals.

The hdd i used was from another computer and still had info on it. I had to use a program called GParted (free just google it) and formatted the hard drive. As soon as I did that I booted to windows and it found the drive and installed it. :D

Have you checked whether you can restore the entire disk? Reason why I ask is because for awhile differential or was it incremental backups, didn't work right. I think they verified, but when it came time to put the backup to actual use an issued occurred. Personally, I do full image backups, which I know does work.
